Sarah Susanna Underwood was born on 26 Sep 1820 in Columbiana, Ohio, United States, daughter of Joseph Underwood (~1795 - 1883) and Frances (Marsh) Underwood (~1795 - 1881).

Her brother was Amos Underwood (1823 - 1905).

Susanna (~16) married John Alonzo Rossell (~21)(1815 - 1888) in May 1837 in Morgan, Ohio. Their children were:
