Jean Gruson was born ca. 1590 in Steenwerck, Flandres francaises, part of the Spanish Netherlands in the late 16th Century. Now in the Nord departement in France. [1]
He married Catherine Dassonville, aka Dassonneville, ca 1590-1630. They were Huguenots or French-speaking Protestant Christians although they likely kept this a secret during these times of religious persecution and living in the Roman-Catholic-ruled Hapsburg Netherlands.
He was known as a "Bourgeois d'Ypres" during his lifetime. [Bourgeois of Ypres, a city in West Flanders, now in Belgium; under Hapsburg rule in 1600s]. [2]
He died around 1635 in Ypres, West Flanders, Spanish Netherlands (today in Belgium).
Jean was born about 1595. He passed away about 1655.
