Biography

Birth and Baptism
Agathe Morin was born and was baptized on 31 Mar 1697 at Saint-Thomas-de-la-Pointe-à-la-Caille, Canada, Nouvelle-France.[1][2][3] She was the daughter of Pierre Morin and Francoise Chiasson.

Marriage
Jacques Boulet and Agathe Morin entered into a Marriage Contract on 6 Jan 1715 before Notary Abel Michon.[4][5][6]

Death and Burial
Agathe Morin, wife of Jacque Boulé, was buried on 31 Jul 1733 at Saint-Francois-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud, Canada, Nouvelle-France. [7] [8] The day of her death is not mentioned in the burial act, which listed her as 38. It was noted in the record that the cause of death was "picote" which at the time was how smallpox, an often deadly disease, was usually designated in Quebec registers. [9] The term "petite vérole" was also used. However, nowadays, "la picote" means "varicelle" (chickenpox in English) instead of "variole" (smallpox).

Hi Line,

Nowadays, smallpox is "variole" in French, and chickenpox is "varicelle", also familiarly called "la picote". Office québécois de la langue française. However, at the time, "picote" meant smallpox, an often deadly disease. See this interesting article in the Drouin Institute blog: Witnessing history through parish registers: Smallpox in the colonial era.
