Biography

Samuel Pruyn was was born in Albany, New York, in December 1677. He was a son of Frans Janse Pruyn and his wife, Alida, of Albany.[1]

Samuel Pruyn was a blacksmith. His metalwork customers included the Albany church and Albany city government.[1]

In February 1704, Samuel married Maria Bogert at her father's house in Albany. By 1723, five children had been christened at the Albany Dutch church.[1]

He made his home in Albany's third ward. His house on the northeast corner of Maiden Lane and Middle Alley was a well-known landmark. He and his wife were frequent baptism sponsors in the Albany church. In 1707, he was appointed firemaster. In 1729, 1730, and 1731, he was elected alderman for the third ward. In 1715, he was a member of an Albany militia company. In 1720 and 1742, his name appeared on lists of Albany freeholders. He also owned a house and lot on the Vosenkil in the second ward. [1][2]

Samuel Pruyn filed a will in March 1752. It named his wife and three sons as heirs. He died in June and was buried from his church. The will passed probate in January 1753. [1]

Samuel Pruyn was married to Maria Bogart on 15 Jan 1704 in Albany, New York. [3]

Death

Samuel Pruyn died ca. June 27, 1752. (definitely between March 27, 1752 (will Preparation) and January 26, 1753 (finished probate)) at Albany.

Samuel was buried on 27 Jun 1752. [6]

Notes

Samuel's date of birth is assumed based on the birth date of his wife Maria Bogart and the fact that he was a bachelor when he married her. His date of death is based on the date of his burial.
