Unit(s): the 19th Bomb Wing (BW) Field Maintenance Squadron (FMS) from June 1965 to November 1967 at Homestead AFB, Florida, the 12th Tactical Fighter Wing (TFW) Field Maintenance Squadron (FMS) from November 1967 at CamRanh AB, RVN to July 1969 and the 153rd Combat Support Squadron (CAM) at Cheyenne, Wyoming from July 1970 to June 1973. Honorable separation from active service on 3 July 1969 at McChord AFB, Tacoma, Washington. Honorably separated from Air Force Active Reserves and Wyoming Air National Guard on 4 June 1973

First born, a son to Richard Mulhausen and Lorraine Nielsen in December 1943 at St. Lukes Hospital in Denver Colorado. Family lived in South East Denver, Denver County, Colorado until 1951, when family moved to new home built by father. Additional early years then spent trying to grow up in the west Denver suburb of Lakewood, Jefferson County, Colorado through high school graduation. Aside from mandated education through Jefferson County Public School System, spent leisure time small game hunting, fishing, hiking, skiing and camping in the Colorado Rockies with family, Boy Scouts or school classmates. During teen years, spent most summers working construction and as lifeguard at 'Lakeside Amusement Park'. Did work at Camp Tahosa, Denver Area BSA camp as a waterfront councilor in 1961. Graduated from Lakewood High School in Spring of 1962. Fall of 1962, went to Colorado State University {CSU} in Fort Collins, Colorado for some (5 quarters) college, until the spring of '64. Financially restricted, worked for income as construction laborer on the Fort Collins domestic water concrete containment reservoir until May, when went to work for a custom wheat cutting crew as a mechanic, combine operator & truck driver. Returned to Denver when father's illness worsened in July and worked as construction laborer until enlisting in United States Air Force {USAF} in January 1965. After training in Texas for basic and to become an air-frame repairman, spent time in Florida and 'In Country {Vietnam}' in South East Asia. Investigated for and provided with "Secret" security clearance required for work on some aircraft under certain conditions. During active service, worked on many aircraft in the inventory, including H model B52 bombers and F4C fighters. Selfishly extended enlistment and spent 2 tours in Vietnam in order to rotate back to the mainland during summer months for easier acclimation and a possible return to college to complete my degree. Separated in July 1969 and went back to CSU for college on accumulated savings, school loans and the GI {Government Issue} Bill, fall of 1969 through spring of 1973. Joined the Wyoming Air National Guard {WyANG} out of Cheyenne to supplement income and occupy air craft interest in July 1970. Worked on Lockheed Super Constellation C-121G and Lockheed C130B aircraft in Cheyenne, but had opportunities to travel, and did. Honorably discharged from active service [1969] and the Air National Guard [1973] after 8 1/3 years of attributed service, very proud that I could contribute to my country and it's well being. Married Arlene Ann Lambatos in June of 1973. Finally d-greed with a Bachelor of Science {BS} in Mechanical Engineering, went to western Wisconsin to work with a little air conditioning company called 'Trane' for 34 plus years, as a Plant, Project, Facilities and Maintenance Engineer, before retiring in 2008 to enjoy the area along the upper Mississippi river and the activities available. Contributed to the conception of a bicentennial baby in 1976, Cari Angeline and then a son Derek James in 1979. With growing family and as secondary hobby, designed and modified abode through several additions, using sweat equity, engineering and construction skills, and substantial help from friends. Volunteered and actively participated as an adult leader in the Boy Scout program from 1991 to 2019 with Troop 21, Soaring Eagle District and the Gateway Area Council. Was awarded with the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver during my tenure in Scouting. Additional membership with other professional and social organizations, like the 12th TFW {Tactical Fighter Wing} Association, Wisconsin American Legion Post 336, AEE {Association of Energy Engineers}, ASME {American Society of Mechanical Engineers}, ASHRAE {American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers}, Brice Prairie Conservation Association, and the VFW Post 1881{Veterans of Foreign Wars} in Cheyenne. Medically diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in June of 2020, effectively restricting major physical activities. Lung Cancer recognized in March 2021 by the Veterans Administration {VA} as attributed to exposure to Agent Orange. Positive reaction to chemotherapy and radiation returned use of collapsed left lung and ceased growth of tumors, reversing life expectancy of no more than 6 months to undetermined. While impacting 'bucket list', attempting to staying mentally and physically active and continuing to plug away.
