Biography

Mary's first husband Jacob Schenck died intestate, his widow Mary and Joseph Stout were the administrators of Jacob Schenck's estate as at 24 Feb 1787. Inventory 740 pounds 0-2 on 24 Feb 1787 by Ezekiel Smith and Garret Schenck. Lib 29 page 263. [1]

Mary is thought to have (re-)married a John Slayback. If so, she must have married him after his wife, Diana, died in 1790, and she died some time later. I don't know what the source is for her death date. The IGI list her death date as Mar 1829. Others list her death as 19 Dec 1768. Note: Jacob Schenck, father-in-law of Joseph Stout, died in 1786. [2]

Mary was born about 1741/42 based on her age at death (87 years). She is reported to have been the daughter of William Covenhoven and Styntje Lane. Apparently she was John Slayback's second wife, based on Internet sources. This information needs to be verified [3]

Research Note

Mary Covenhoven-Slayback is named as sister in the will of Domincus Covenhoven dated 28 Oct 1805 in South Brunswick, NJ, proved 6 Dec 1806. Domincus was born circa 1749, he married a Miss Mershon, perhaps had no children, left the bulk of his estate to a Mershon nephew named Domincus, son of William Mershon.
