Moone-48 and Mohun-25 appear to represent the same person because: I know these to be the same person, and the correct surname to use should be Mohun not Moone
I have recorded in my children's paternal ancestry to this De Mohun family, that the parents of Richard of Hawkchurch (Fleet) de Mohun were John of Hall (Ottery St Mary) de Mohun & Elizabeth Starnthwaite.

Per Memorial: "The Mohun family was one of the most ancient Norman houses of the West Country, and derived its name from Moyon in Normandy. The founder of the family in England, William de Mohun, appears in Domesday as an important tenant in chief in the counties of Somerset and Dorset. The caput of their barony ws Dunster Castle, in Somerset, and their history has been fully set forth by Sir Henry Churchill Maxwell-Lyte in his history of 'Dunster and its Lords.' The Moones of Fleet, Co. Dorset (for the name Mohun [Moyon] became corrupted in Moone [Moon]) were a cadet branch, who claimed to descend from Sir Robert Mohun of Lorlock, Co. Somerset, the fifth son of Sir John de Mohun of Dunster, who died in 1330. But the descent is obscure, and the ancestry of this branch has not been proved farther back than Richard Mohun alias Moone with whom the following pedigree begins."

"He was also said to have "died, an old man, about 1570, and was buried in Bridport church. The name of his wife, who also was buried in Bridport church, is unknown. He was of Hawkchurch, Co. Dorset, in the early part of the reign of Henry VIII, and held land also in Axminster, Co. Devon, in 1529. He removed to Bridport at that time, and was granted land there 12 Sept. 1529. He was Bailiff of Bridport in 1527 and 1528 Henry VIII [1535-1537] (Hutchins's History of Dorset) and also in 1544-45." 1440

(1440)***

      • This death date was corrected in the next issue of NEHGR, "Richard Mohun alias Moone (No. 1 of the pedigree) was born about 1485 and died about 1547 (not about 1570, as stated in the pedigree). He married Joan (_____) Howman, a widow (cf. Court Rolls of the Manor of Axminster, 21 July 1528, infra). A large parchment pedigree of the Mohuns of Fleet, Co. Dorset, was compiled in 1606 by the Garter Dethick for *Maximilian* Mohun (No. 2, ii, of the pedigree published in the REGISTER), son of *Robert Mohun alias Moone* (No. 2 of the pedigree) and grandson of Richard Mohun alias Moone (No. 1 of the pedigree). In this parchment pedigree Richard Mohun (No. 1) is given as the son of John Mohun of Ottery St. Mary, Co. Devon; and since Maximilian Mohun, for whom the parchment pedigree was drawn up, was a grandson of this Richard, it is probably that this statement is correct, especially as in the court rolls of Ottery St. Mary, now among the muniments of Lord Coleridge, it appears that on 14 Apr. 1516 John Mohun of Ottery St. Mary was surety for William Salter, an out-tenant. This John Mohun was evidently the son of Richard Moyne of Ottery St. Mary, who died between 21 Nov. 1515 and 24 Jan. 1515/16, seised of half a ferling of land at 'Four Elms,' of the tenure of 'antique berton' and leaving a wife, Elizabeth. (Court Rolls of Ottery St. Mary, m. 106d). " More details to be entered.

(1442) "Richard died in 1546 (The Register, vol. 80, pp. 355-356) and not 'about 1570' as stated in The Register, vol. 81, p. 314. It was pointed out that the Mohuns of Fleet, near Bridport, Co. Dorset, were undoubtedly descended from some obscure cadet branch of the ancient Norman house of Mohun of Dunster Castle, Co. Somerset, which emerged once more into prominence in the social upheaval which took place in the reign of Henry VIII, but no attempt was made to discuss the ancestry of Richard Moon of Hawkchurch and Bridport. The present paper will deal with the probably ancestry of Richard and a tentative pedigree will be presented, which while not proven cannot, in any event, be very far out of the way." Details to be entered. 1443

(1443) "Richard Mohun alias Moone - b.a. 1485, d. a. 1547, bur. Bridport Church. Married Joan (___) Howman of Bridport, Dorset. Richard was of Hawkechurch, Dorset in the early part of the reign of Henry VIII and of Axminister in 1529. he was Baliff of Bridport, Dorset in 1535 & 1537 and again in 1544-45." 458
