John was born in 1739 in Great Wigborough, Essex, England, son of Michael Smith and Miss Marsten.[1]
He was living in Yasum, Yorkshire, England, at the time of his marriage in 1765. He was married on 26 Dec 1765 in Thornaby, Yorkshire to Sarah Flintoff. [2]
John Smith, a cabinetmaker of Yarm, Yorks., age 34, arrived at Halifax on July 31, 1773 [vessel unknown] with his wife Sarah (Flintoft) and children William, Sarah, Ann (Nancy). John, Sarah and family settled at Newport, Hants County, N.S. He later became a Methodist lay preacher." see [3]
He died on 25 October 1829, in Hants, Nova Scotia, at the age of 91, and was buried in Poplar Grove, West Hants, Hants, Nova Scotia.[4]
They had additional children at Newport Township: Mary, John, James Marsten, Michael, Frances, Hannah, and George Flintoff.
