Biography

Tryntje Helmerse Otten was the only child of Helmar Otten and Ariantje Bradt, and the step daughter of Reyer Jacobse Schermerhorn (1652-1719). She at Albany, New York, likely in about 1671. There are no Albany church records from before 1683, so there is no record of her baptism.

She married Gerrit Symonse Veeder. They were married in the Albany Reformed Church on 3 August 1690, recorded as Gerrit Symonsz and Catryn Helmertsz. Both were living at "N.A." (referring to "New Albany," later known as Albany).[1]

Their children were:[2]

  1. Helmar, born October 1690; married Annatje Mabie.
  2. Wilhelmus
  3. Engeltje, born 22 July 1693 and baptized in Albany on 27 August 1693;[3] married Johannes Vedder.
  4. Arriantje, born 16 November 1695; married Daniel Van Antwerpen
  5. Hendricus, born 3 August 1698; married Elizabeth Wemple
  6. Simon, born 31 December 1700
  7. Annatje, born 16 August 1703; married Willem Bancker
  8. Cornelius, born 27 January 1706; married Elizabeth Visscher.
  9. Magdalena, born 27 January 1710 and baptized in Albany on 28 April 1710;[4] married Johannes Bancker.

In January 1695, Gerrit and Tryntje were witnesses to the baptism in Schenectady of Johannes Vrooman, son of Gerrit's sister Geesje Symense (Veeder) and her husband Jan Vrooman. When Gerrit and Tryntje's daughter Ariaantje was baptized in Schenectady on 8 January 1696, witnesses were Gerrit's brother Pieter Symonse (Veeder) and Jannetje Reyerse (Schermerhorn).[5] She and her husband filed a joint will in Dutch.[6]

Otten-260 and Otten-237 appear to represent the same person because: Clearly intended to be the same person.

Neither profile cites a baptism record nor indicates that she was baptized with a patronymic name, and I have not found any WikiTree profiles with a patronymic form of her name, so Otten seems like the best choice for her LNAB. Both profiles use that name, and the parent conflicts that formerly existed have been resolved, so a merge can proceed.
