Jonathan Jay was born on 01 April 1815 to James and Martha Jay, as recorded by the Mill Creek Quaker Monthly Meeting, Miami County, Ohio.^[1]

Jonathan married Ann Jones, daughter of Elisha Jones and Susanna Hollingsworth, in 1833 in Union Township, Miami County, Ohio. Ann died on 9 Jan 1849 at age 37, leaving him a widower.
Records on Ancestry claim that Jonathan married Rachel Tate on 6 Jan 1859, but documentation is needed. The marriage may have been earlier, since other records list two children for Jonathan that were born after the death of his first wife.
