Biography

Note: This profile appears to have been merged at least twice, and carries widely divergent years of birth (aft 1619 - 1635) in either New haven County, which didn't exist. or England. Clean-up after merge needs to be addressed. Unless this is a different Sarah Beard than I've been reading about, she gave birth in 1646 and 1649 in Milford, so 1635 seems late.

Her birth date is estimated to be about 1824. She was born to Martha (Wood) and James Beard who had married in 1623. Her four siblings as reported here were born between 1626 and 1631, and her father died in 1639. Given the spacing between the siblings we know about, and that she probably married Nathaniel Briscoe about 1644, it seems like a reasonable estimate.

Marriage

Sarah married for her first husband Nathaniel Briscoe.[1] Their children were:

  1. Nathaniel Briscoe, bap. 10 Jan 1646/47 in Milford
  2. James Briscoe, bap. 6 May 1649 in Milford

The parentage of a third child, Sarah, is under discussion. One factor, a birth of 1651, may render Nathaniel out of consideration since he reportedly, by some, died in 1650. More information is needed.

Sarah (Beard) Briscoe, widow, was married on 14 Jul 1652 in Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut to Nicholas Camp, Jr. [2] [3] This reference shows that Nicholas Camp was her second husband, and that she was the widow of Nathaniel Briscoe.[4]

Camp children included ...

  1. Joseph #1 Camp, b: 11 Aug 1653; d. 16 Aug 1655
  2. Samuel Camp, b: 15 Sep 1655; d. 04 Apr 1733 CT
  3. Joseph #2 Camp, b: 15 Dec 1657; d. 20 May 1750 CT
  4. Mary Camp, b: 12 Jul 1660
  5. Nathan Camp, b: c1661; d. 26 Mar 1661
  6. John Camp, b: 14 Sep 1662; d. 02 Aug 1731 CT
  7. Sarah Camp, b: 14 Sep 1662; d. 18 Dec 1710
  8. Abigail Camp, b: 28 Mar 1667; d. 20 Mar 1742.

Death

She died on 16 Aug 1689 in Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut [5] and was buried there at First Congregational Church in the oldest part of Milford Cemetery and no grave marker remains. [6] [7] [8]

Research Notes

Question on the parents and marriages of Sarah Briscoe ... There is no proof that Sarah Briscoe who married Samuel Northrup was the daughter of Nathaniel Briscoe and Sarah Beard. IF she was born in 1651, she just might have been their daughter. Some records show that Sarah married Samuel in 1671, but their eldest child was born in 1687. Why such a big gap? Furthermore, there is no proof that Sarah Briscoe was the widow of a Northrup who married Samuel Clark (as his 2nd wife), but she appears to be the only widow Northrup named Sarah who lived in Milford at the right time to become Samuel Clark's 2nd wife.

Beard-2158 and Beard-815 appear to represent the same person because: Beard-2185 is incorrect, and should probably be merged with Beard-815

I am stripping some of the errors off 2158 so the merge can be completed. I note Ian is profile manager on both profiles.

Beard-925 and Beard-815 appear to represent the same person because: duplicate profiles with same parents and same spouse. The ABOUT dates have no solid sources so they are only guesses. Wikitree policy is that each individual can have only one profile, so these 2 need to be merged. Thanks

Request PM change the LNAB to Beard before merge to prevent it from defaulting to Camp. Only PM can perform this edit, Thank you.

Camp-1824 and Beard-925 appear to represent the same person because: dups with same parents and same spouse

If this profile has the right dates, then she is attached to the wrong parents because they did not marry until 4 years after her birth. In this case, the profile should be detached from these parents.

If this profile has the wrong dates, then the dates should be corrected to match the other duplicate sibling Sarah and those profiles should be merged. Thanks for your help with this.

Have requested Sarah be detached from Nat. Briscoe. No proof she was his wife.

There is work to be done on this family beginning with the parents. The match should probably have been set as 'unmerged' except that I have seen profiles sit in that category for years untouched. See the comments posted on all three, plus the parents.

Anybody want to collaborate on this?

Camp-1824 and Beard-2158 do not represent the same person because: They appear to be different generations.

In proposing the merge of Camp-1824 into Beard 2158 I missed the fact that they both should be merged into Beard- 925. Sorry.

Camp-1824 and Beard-2158 appear to represent the same person because: clear duplicate if the fathers are merged - James Beard-1102 and -929. LNAB is Beard.

Unknown-321331 and Beard-925 do not represent the same person because: Sarah Unknown married Nicholas Camp Sr., while Sarah Beard Camp is shown as marrying Nicholas Camp Jr. Birth years are off by a generation, There are sources for Sarah Unknown's death in 1645 in Unknown-321331

Beard-2518 and Beard-925 appear to represent the same person because: One of many Sarah Beard Camps that need to be merged. 2518 has no sources and estimated birth date, but husband one child Mary make the identification clear.
