Hello! Thank you for editing the data on Martje Cornelia for me, I really appreciate it. However, the birth and death are not estimated : the birth was shown with Dutch records, and as for the Death the Find-a-Grave was accompanied by an obituary, though corroborating evidence has now been added. Thank you for your diligent assistance!

Hi Hans, The lovely thing about Wiki Tree is that someone else comes along with fresh eyes and things move on. To me the obvious thing about the Charles Neale profile was two 1851 census sources. Once the second sources details were entered on the profile it became clear it was of two people divided at 1851. So I have split them into two imperfect but a step further forward profiles. So if you were feeling sad about things you shouldn't be - you, as am I, are all part of the ongoing process! All the best, David.

Hello Ken, thank you for your message - I am very sorry to hear about your disappointment and I apologize for not having lived up to your expectations.

I think you just very recently made this comment: Quote "Thinking of joining WikiTree? We are a very helpful group working toward similar goals. If you get stuck we will do the best we can to help you as others have helped us. Anyone who likes mystery, history, and fellowship of kindred spirits will find endless opportunities to learn and contribute on WikiTree." Unquote I agree fully with your sentiment and though I am not without faults, I am trying my best. I was told some time ago that there are more than a million profiles in WikiTree which are deficient in one way or another. For the most part, volunteers are being asked to help and improve matters, that is to do the work which ought to have been done by the PM of each of these profiles. I am sure you are volunteering your time, just as I do, to help with the WikiTree project? Thank you for your attention, best regards - Hans

G'day Hans,

You wrote me 2 months back about merging profiles that looked the same for Charles Neal Charles Neal (1847-1902). On the profile I gave you specific details about my concerns in merging the 2 profiles. Not being rude but don't you think its a little presumptive to simply overrule the profile manger and then do what you think is right? I thought you had asked & I said 'no'; giving my reasons. I would have been happy to have had a discussion in more detail but that wasn't explored. I thought the priority in WikiTree was to try hard to get the facts right before we proceed. I'm a little disappointed that this has happened in this way.

Thank you, Hans. There are 2 John Henry Faulkner listings that are connected as brothers. They are the same person. I requested this merge months ago, but have received no response.

Many thanks for pointing this out, Hans! My mistake for creating the duplicate but I've now merged it with the original. (I'm a relative newcomer to WikiTree so I'm still learning!)

Thank you, however, after suggesting all the merges I realized that there may be more problems brewing, as all the dates for the parents and most everybody else are not in sync and at a minimum require thorough cleaning up

I added a little to the Caroline Kea page. Findagrave has been married to John Thomas Grinstead. I liked the parallel of the first Grinstead in America (William) also married a Kea (Elizabeth). Findagrave also had Joh 's father as Robert Grinstead but I can't connect him to the larger Grinstead family. You have any info on that?

Hans, I'm not sure of the correct birth surname for Edith Selina Grace (Ashney/Ashway?) Shanahan in the Match you have proposed. The marriage certificate to William James SHANAHAN has her name as ASHNEY. I found a birth for Selina Grace Edith ASHNEY b 05/02/1889 to Thomas ASHNEY and Georgina HALLETT. On these reords, I propose to accept the Merge, with her birth name being ASHNEY. Is my reasoning and data collection reasonable enough for us to proceed? DUH! checked origins of wikitree entries - both mine! Merging now.

Hans, your proposed merge of Simpson 27249 and Simpson 7731 appear to be the same person. However, I believe my facts are correct. I added sources yesterday. Thank you.

George Henry Jewell-4477 and Jewell-2324

Hello Cliff, thank you for your message, and sorry for your difficulties. I looked at the profile of Cliff-4477, and the merger is still pending, i.e. has not been done. Not a problem, you have the option of not doing anything, then it will come back to me in 30 days by default, and I will do the merge. Or, you can try again - go to the profile Cliff-4477, scroll down to the bottom to "Matches and Merges" and click on "compare". It should bring up both profiles side by side. You can compare them - highlighted on top is "merge them" - you click on that, and follow the instructions step by step, and last click on "complete the merge" and the newly "merged" profile is coming up, now with the ID Cliff-2324.

No problem with the addition of siblings etc., you can do that anytime, whenever you find a minute. No pressure at all.

Happy Day Hans

Hello Hans

Thank you for your proposed merger. I am finding the directions on how to merge hard to follow. I may have merged twice or not at all.

I am trying to find time to add some brothers and half-sisters for George Henry Jewell. Don't have a time frame for when I will do this. Cheers Cliff

Hi Hans, just wanted to thank you for the suggestions and changes you have made to some of my family, especially John Compton and Amanda Wood. However, in reviewing some of them just now, I noticed that one of the changes you made is to the death date of Amanda Wood Compton. I have her death certificate on my Ancestry.com tree, and it gives her death date as 21 Oct 1923 (not 1924), so I have just changed it back to 1923. Pretty sure the death certificate would be the most accurate info. I tried to read the headstone, but it isn't very clear. In case you are curious, John and Amanda are my paternal 2nd great grandparents.

Appreciate your help and additions/corrections to any of my family members. I don't have much time to spend on wikitree. Best regards, Margaret Pross Curry

Hello Charlie, thank you for your message and your good work. My objective at this point is merely to identify possible duplicate profiles, and, if feasible at all, solicit the help of the PMs to resolve the issues apparent. Ultimately, if the profiles are duplicates, process a merge, or, if they are genuine different profiles, state the reasons and move on.

Thank you for your help. Happy Day - Hans

Hi Hans,

Charlie Kelly from Scotland here. Many thanks for your interest in the two John Lyons of Cappagh Parish in County Tyrone. I have sent you a private message, which I hope you receive ok? I have been researching the Lyon/Lyons family of County Tyrone for over 30 years now and am in touch with some other descendants of the Lyons family, some in the States with others in Ireland and here in Scotland. It is always good to touch base with others interested in family lines being followed. Best wishes from Ayrshire, Charlie.

Hi Hans, thank you for helping to improve so many profiles, just one thing, the Estimated Date template needs specific wording added as a parameter, and adds a category to a profile. Using any other words adds a red incorrect category to the profile. See the template page https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Template:Estimated_Date for the correct wording to use with Estimated Date.

Many thanks for your help, regards, Margaret, Categorization Project.

You have just replaced the grandparents of Robert Louis Stevenson (Stephenson-2618). The ones who were there were from Ireland, and married in Northumberland. The ones you have replaced them with are from the USA and the female died in Tennessee. What is your reason for this change, please?

Hi! I just approved the merge of the Mary Avaline Kinser/Kincer Ellis ladies. I don't know how I missed the Kincer version when I added the Kinser version. Thank you for finding that!

One favor: Could you please leave the last name as Kinser? That family had a whole bunch of spellings of names, probably do the last of education. My grandfather had kind of strong feelings about how it was written and pronounced. I feel a loyalty there. Jeanne Kinser Doom

Hello Vicki, thank you for your comments, really appreciated. Particularly I thank you for your understanding of the conundrum - there are profiles

who appear to be duplicates solely because one or both profiles contain erroneous data of some sort, be it linked relations or dates or locations. My hope is always that the respective PM's will be motivated to have another look at what is or is not possible to be amended. I know, hard work - but with your help it will get resolved eventually.

Thanks so much for your work in cleaning up duplicate profiles. You recently proposed a merge between one of the profiles I manage and another, I responded with reasons for why I don't think this merge is appropriate, but wanted you to know that I appreciate your efforts. You pointed out some inconsistencies with the same daughter listed for two men with the same name. I hope this can eventually be resolved, but it may not be since I do not manage the other profile, I am hesitant to undo without more input from the other profile manager or more definite proof.

The proposed merge between Thomas Anderson (Anderson-34253) and Thomas Anderson (Anderson-31560) looks very probable. I suffered a house fire in September 2022. My reference books probably survived (it was mostly the garage), they may or may not have additional sources, but the books are in storage until the very slow rebuilding process is complete. Regardless, you have my blessing to merge, it's been a while since I did real work on WikiTree, so tell me if I need to press buttons.
Thanks for the suggested merger of the Johns Gaulton 1811 and 1815. Makes sense!

Hi Hans, if you could be careful of race when sourcing USA profiles, that would help us out. You conflated Cad Hicks (Hicks-5813) who was Black with Cadwallader Hicks who was white. Then you merged the two profiles. I had to restore Cad and recreate Cadwallader. In most US states interracial marriage was illegal before 1967, so this marriage relationship wasn't even possible which is what instantly clued me in to the conflation. Plus, the original sources were listed on Cad's profile which shows him as Black! Thanks, Emma

Hi Hans,

In regards to my grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Giffin, it's listed that her last name at birth was McLellan. When in truth, her last name at birth was Turnbull. She was adopted by the McLellan's when she was three years old, which was when she had her surname legally changed to McLellan. This is what was told by Mary to my mother, Norma Jean Lyons (Giffin).

Please reach out if you have further questions,
