John Griggs was born in 1719 in Gravesend, Kings, Long Island, New York. His parents were Benjamin Griggs and Margrietje Van Driest. He married Jane UNKNOWN in 1743 Together they had 8 children:

Female children are not named in the 31 Jan 1765 will of brother Dr. Reuben Griggs but the sons Benjamin, James, Daniel, John, and William are also to get his apparel.
