Hello cousin Paul,

Your name came up in my WIKI Tree EMAIL this morning with an indication that we are 7th cousins. I did find a 7 cM match in Ancestry which would fit so am guessing that is you.

The interesting thing is that we are related through both of your parents, as well as all four of your grandparents. This is not unusual in the French Canadian community, I have not built out all of the great grands yet, but would not be surprised to find connections to most of them.

Hi Sue. Through Ancestry I learned that my parents were related to each other and all 4 of my grandparents were also related to each other, a result that truly surprised me. My wife, who is mostly Irish, is 25% French Canadian through a grandmother from Nova Scotia and our research found that we are also distantly related through 2 of her grandmother's ancestors who came from Quebec. This astonished us since there was no reason to believe we had common ancestors. The Quebec situation is so unique with such a small number of original settlers who intermarried resulting in much of the population sharing that limited ancestry. Paul

No great surprise there either.  ;>

My French Canadian side is through my mother. My father is Irish/Scots/English. However when I started researching his mother's BISHOP family, it led me to the NE ... MA, CT, and ME, and then straight to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick ... Acadia. I am guessing that my great grandparents could be distantly related as well. When I have some more time and get past my elusive paternal great grandparents, I'll see if I can make that connection too. **It's a small world, after all**

Hi Paul,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.
