Alan A, MacKenzie is of the son of Arthur MacKenzie and Helen Chomiak. Born in Lethbridge AB Canada, he grew up in the SE of the province of BC in the wee hamlet of Golden, nestled in the Columbia River valley. He had two siblings, one of which perished with brain cancer in 1975 at the tender age of 15 years.

Alan entered his University "career" in September 1972 at the behest of his father, to train as a Civil Engineer. After tackling 5 years of training, he abandoned this dream and found a practical job.

From 1977 to 1983, Alan worked as a civil servant for the Ministry of Lands in the Okanagan Valley. He worked his way up from a junior cartographer to a Land Inspector. He then shifted north to Burns Lake, BC to try out for a District Land Manager position. Alan decided to further his education by enrolling in the University of Alberta in 1983, where he commenced a Bachelor of Science in Forestry. He graduated with honours in 1986, and returned to BC to work with various Forest Companies and as a priviate consultant in the Interior and up the West Coast. In this period, he met and married his first wife, Corrine Hackman.

In 1998 they divorced, which prompted Alan to shift to Kelowna, BC to assist his brother in a business venture in real estate. There he met a Kiwi lassie, Raewyn Atack, got married, and then shifted to Australia in 1999 and then shifted again to New Zealand in 2009.

Since moving downunder, Alan trained for the pastorate with the Baptist Churches of Queensland, and later completed a Master degree in Counselling through Christian Heritage College in Mansfield, Brisbane. Alan has been a practicing therapist since 2005 in both countries.

Hi Alan,

It is once again time for our annual Scotland Project check-in. Please respond within the next three weeks to let us know:

•If you would like to continue as a project member •If you are happy with your current teams or would you like to join a different team •How much time per month (on average) you spend working on Scottish profiles •Anything you’d like the Scotland Project to do more of in the future

You can respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within the next three weeks we’ll assume your interests have changed or you are no longer able to participate in the Scotland Project at this time, and your badge will be removed. If your circumstances change later you will be welcome to reapply for membership.

On behalf of the Scotland Project, I would like to thank you for your commitment to the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve Scottish profiles!

Sheena - Scotland Project Membership Coordinator

Hi Alan! I haven't heard back from you regarding the Scotland Project check-in. I hope you are well and look forward to hearing from you soon.

I'm so very sorry for not getting back to you Amy. I'm gonna need a bit more time to become more involved as I've recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and it has thrown my world into a tailspin kinda. Hope you understand. I'll get back to you in likely 6 mos or more as a follow-up, OK? Best of luck, Alan

I'm so sorry to hear this. You take care of your health first and don't worry about the Scotland Project. We aren't going anywhere.

Hi Alan!

It's time for our annual Scotland Project check-in!

This year we are hoping to learn what our membership would like to accomplish over the next 12 months. In case you aren't aware, this year is WikiTree's ""Year of Connections"" and the Project's leadership would like to contribute to this in as many ways as possible.

We would appreciate it if you would share your thoughts and ideas with us on how we can accomplish this goal. We would also appreciate it if you would provide some feedback on our existing goals, including:

  • If you have not yet signed up to help on one of the project's teams, which team(s) would you be interested in joining?
  • How often should we provide a Project Newsletter?
  • Have you participated in the Tartan Trail? If not, is this something you'd be interested in doing?
  • Do you have a question(s) that we could add to a Frequently Asked Questions page?
  • Any suggestions or ideas you have on ways to improve the Scotland Project in general

We continue to communicate with our Project members via Google Group (official) and Discord (unofficial), as well as G2G. You may also reach out to any of the Project leaders via WikiTree's internal messaging system at any time.

Thank you for all you do to help the Scotland Project become a knowledge hub for Scottish genealogical research! We wish you all the best in 2022!

Sincerely, Amy Gilpin on behalf of the Scotland Project Leaders

Hello

It’s time for a Project check-in!

Scotland Project Leaders check in with you at least once a year to see how you are doing. With the changes happening around the world, we understand that life is hectic right now.

What are you planning to work on for the Scotland Project this year? Are you happy with the team(s) you part of, or would you like to make some changes?

This time round, we’re also looking for feedback on the use of Google Group and Discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way to ensure you receive Project communications? If you would like to join us on Google Group or Discord, let us know in your response.

Hello Alan,

My name is Sarah and I’m the Project Coordinator for the Scotland Project. As you may have heard, we have merged the Scottish Clans project into the Scotland Project. I am contacting you today to find out if you are interested in continuing with us under this new format. If you would like to go forward on the Scottish Clans Team, please reply and let me know which clans you have been working on or would like to work on. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

Sarah Mason, Scotland PC

My apologies for taking so long to reply, Sarah. My bad. I would love to go forward but the truth be known, I haven't got a clue how to commence. I've been in contact previously with Mark Sutherland-Fisher, Coordinator for the Scotland Project -- he seems connected to the MacKenzie projects as he has MacKenize's in his ancestory. I'd be very happy to help out with our namesake clan, to be sure! But any of my extended rellie's clans would also interest me, such as the Burry Clan, the Badger Clan, the Luttrell Clan, the Christie, Willocks, or the Morrow Clans. Any of these would be of interest. Can I lean on you to help me get "kick started"? Thanks, Alan MacKenzie

Hello Alan, from another MacKenzie descendant! My MacKenzie ancestors came from Lochbroom -Ross and Cromarty, Scotland.

Thanks for the kind introduction, Rose. I don't believe our rellies were immediate neighbors -- but maybe they have some links genealogically speaking?

Hi Alan, I noted thank you’s from you with regard to Alexander and Harvey Mackenzie. My mother was a Mackenzie and I was told we originate from Scotland. I wonder if you could add me to your trusted list or help me in anyway. I would be most grateful.

Kind Regards, Daphne Ps. Their father was William Henry Harvey Mackenzie and Mother Mary Richards.

Hey Daphne! Thanks for you message. I wish I was astute enough to be able to assist. I don't even know how to commence helping another soul to research their ancestry, other than to get up to speed with the "Tartan Trail" Initiative and to learn how within that process. Would it be OK if I were to do more of this BEFORE agreeing to assist you? Cheers, Alan

Hi!

Just checking in with a few quick tips:

Looking to make more connections or find more information about an ancestor but not sure how to do that? Try categorizing your profiles.

Not sure what to put into a biography? Here are some Bio Ideas. Also, make sure that the biographies match WikiTree’s Styles and Standards.

If you come across an unresponsive manager, we have a process for those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, please ask!!

The FAQ section on the ONS project page should answer most of your questions about the project.

Thank you for your note earlier, yes, you may remain a guest and get comfortable with WikiTree, that is not a problem at all.

I hope you hang on to the emails especially the first one from WikiTree and the second one from me (that you deleted from here) so that you will have the necessary information should you decide to join us.

Note: Please do not delete this so that other greeters will know you have indeed been greeted and we have corresponded.

Thank you, Dorothy, WikiTree Greeter
