The ship Ruahine (official no. 124582) was mastered by E T Smith and belonged to the Steamship line: The New Zealand Shipping company Ltd.

Registered tonnage" 6770. Passengers on board: 597. 1

Initially arriving in Wellington, William and the family soon moved north to Wanganui. 1

William had been in NZ for 16 years when he died in 1942 [ref death cert.], implying he arrived in NZ in 1926.

Occupation at time of death: soldier.

From his death cert, William's cause of death was given as: Cerebral Thrombosis 11 days, arteriosclerosis over 5 years. 1

William separated from Lily and went to work in Dannevirke at the army barrack's canteen. suffered a stroke in 1942.
