Biography

I am a retired history professor with over 50 years experience researching my ancestors and other aspects of local Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, history and still have a lot to learn. My interest in discovering more about my ancestors and focus on local history comes from my conviction that real history is made by everyone and is the story of all of us living and working together, not just the actions of the powerful and famous. I am interested in making sure that information posted on the internet is reliable and verifiable and am looking for others with whom I can share information. With that in mind, NOTE that many of the family trees on Ancestry.com are filled with errors and undocumented connections, and should not be used on Wiktree unless there is documentation that can be verified. Find-A-Grave now has "memorials" for people whose burial site is unknown and much of the information on these "virtual cemeteries" is questionable, to say the least, and should not be considered reliable unless it is well documented.

I saw your name and mine mentioned as contributors to Henry Mauk Gedmatch. My ancestors where Henry & Eve Mauk. I’m trying to answer a question I have? I’m beginning to believe that Eva Gfeller, daughter of Ulrich Gfeller aka Feller. Was one of my ancestors. Married to Henry Mauk, of Shenandoah County, Virginia and Sullivan County, Tenn. I read where Henry Mauk married Eva March 1, 1771, Frederick County, Va. (I have not been able to verify?) Deed book 2, page 425, Sullivan County, NC, 1788, Henery Mawke & Eve to Alexander Berry. Both of Sullivan County, NC Henry Mauks father Peter Mauk owned 410 acres of land west of Toms Brook, The northern most corner of this tract was about ¾ of a mile south of the town of Harrisville. Wolford (Ulrich) Gfeller aka Feller. ( Land record, August 1768, for Jacob Rife to Wolreck Feller) Father of Eva Gfeller. Eastern edge of Ulrich property, The town of Harrisville (or close to it). Per online information; Henry is listed as 19 years old in June 1772, (1753) when he received Holy Communion in Woodstock, VA. This record appears in the church records of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Strasburg, Shenandoah Co., VA. In 1777, Henery Mauk (Henry Mauk) was on the roster of the Capt. Michael Radar’s Militia Company of Dunmore County (Shenandoah County) Or this could be the Henry Mauk, possible son of Rudolph Mauk, from the Hamburg area. Ulrich Gfeller had 4 sons and 3 daughters. Sons. John (Johannes), Ulrich, Christian & Joseph Daughters, (1) Eva, maybe wife of Henry Mauk) Estate of Ulrich Gfeller, Cash to Henry Mauk for George Hount Cash to Ulrich Gfeller (Jr), Cash to John Gfeller, Cash to Christian Gfeller, Cash to Michael Burner ? of his wife. (2) Mary Magdalena Gfeller, married Michael Burner. &(3) Barbara who married George Hunt (Hount) May 23, 1785, Shenandoah County. ( who later moved just on the north edge of Bristol. Washington Co. Va.) George & Barbara (Gfeller) Hunt had a son George, per bible record, of the McLean County, Illinois Bible record, which lists the Hunt bible. George Jr. born Feb. 2, 1793 about 10 miles from Abington, Washington Co. Va. Married Sarah Mauk, daughter of Henry & Eve Mauk. Born Jan. 2, 1795 about 3 miles (NW of Childress Ferry) married Feb. 1, 1818. (Childress Ferry crossed the Holston River. Where the present day Warrior Path State Park is located. ) Henry Mauk lived on the west side of Cook’s Valley, The southern end of Cooks Valley is the present day Warrior Path State Park) Have you seen any other documentation for Henry & Eve or Eva Mauk? Thanks Maurice Newbrough

Hello,

Brumbach-5 and Brumbach-71 may be the same person or someone maybe making an assumption. I have not found a source for the connection as of yet but thank you for bringing it to my attention.
