Biography
Louisa was born on 18 December, 1939 in Oostvoorne, the Netherlands. She emigrated with her family to the United States on 9 April 1957, where she lived in Alameda, California. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a major in Chemistry in 1962, and married M. Ali Tabatabai on 8 September 1962. Ali was a graduate student in Plant Sciences and Nutrition at Berkeley. In October 1963, Louisa and Ali moved to Ames, Iowa where they are still living. Ali was awarded a PhD in Agronomy-Soil chemistry and Biochemistry in 1965 and Louisa was awarded an MS degree in Food Technology in 1966 and a PhD in Biochemistry in 1976. Their three children, Fareed, Layth and Janine Mae were born and raised in Ames, Iowa.
