The birth of William James was registered in Bridgend and Cowbridge in the December quarter 1839 [1] and he was christened on 4 January 1840 in Llysworney, Glamorgan, Wales. [2] His parents are David James (an Agricultural Labourer) and Mary (William) James.
In the 1841 Census, William (aged 1) was living in Llysworney, Glamorgan, Wales [3] with his parents David and Mary James and siblings:
Ann James aged 11;
Thomas James aged 9;
Richard James aged 7;
Mary James aged 5; and
David James aged 3.
On 18 October 1868 William James married Catherine John (daughter of John John) in Llangeinor, Glamorgan, Wales. [4]
In the 1871 Census, William (aged 31, described as married and employed as an Agricultural Labourer) was living in Llysworney, Glamorgan, Wales [5] with his parents, David (employed as an Agricultural Labourer) and Mary James, his sister Catherine James (aged 26 and employed as a Dressmaker) and his nephews and niece:
Thomas James born 1856;
William James born 1868; and
Mary James born 1870.
William's wife Catherine passed away aged 31 later in 1871 leaving William as a widower. [6]
On 13 May 1876, William married for the second time to Ann Elward (daughter of Edward Elward) in St Donat's, Glamorgan, Wales, the birth town of Ann. [7]
In the 1881 Census, William (aged 41 and working as an Inn Keeper and Hay Cutter) was living in Llanblethian, Glamorganshire, Wales with his wife Ann (Elward) James[8] and their children:

In the 1901 Census, William (aged 61 and again described as an Inn Keeper and Hay Cutter) was living in Llanblethian, Glamorganshire, Wales with his wife Ann (Elward) James[10] and their children:
William James passed away aged 63 in 1903 and his death was registered in Bridgend in the March quarter. [11]
