Ahasuerus was baptized, 12 Apr 1740, in the Schenectady Dutch Church, New York. 1740 Apr 12; Gysbert Marselis, Elisabeth Van Antwerpen; Ahasuerus;[1]
American Revolution
Captain Ahasuerus Marselis served with Albany County, New York Militia during the American Revolution.
Ahasuerus Marselis is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A074102.
According to A history of Schenectady during the revolution, Ahasuerus was elected captain of one of the newly organized militia companies on 10 February 1776, but he probably did not serve actively in that role. On 4 March 1776 he was appointed overseer of batteaumen for service at Lake George and Ticonderoga. In the fall of 1779 he commanded a detachment (probably of fatigue men) to Fort Hunter and other places along the Mohawk. In 1781 he was a member of Captain John Crousehorn’s company of artillery.[2] The DAR also credits him with civil service as an overseer of carpenters.[3]

Research Notes
Ahasuerus and his family were documented to be interred in Montgomery County, N.Y. [18]According to this information, Ahasuerus passed in his 60th year. This would confirm his year of birth being 1739 or 1740. The other's listed in the Cemetery were:
Hester (same stone as Ahasuerus), 8-14-1814 in 69th year.

By looking at the tree from 1881 (I placed the link to it in the See Also section at the bottom of the profile), the mother of Ahasuerus of this profile is incorrect. It appears that Ahasuerus' mother was the first wife of Guysbert Marcellus/Marselis, who was Barbara Claus Groesbeck. Guysbert's second wife was stated to be Elizabeth Van Syce not Van Antwerpen as it is here. II admit I have not check for baptisms under these names. Just adding it here for further research.
Thanks for that feedback however, I have questions...
Did Gysbert (1658-1740) also marry Elizabeth Van Syce?? Has that been looked into? this is key!
Are we assuming Guysbert (1658-1740) did Not have a child named Ahasuerus?
Are we assuming that there is only one Ahasuerus? (Just speculating, because in my Degraff family (for example most of the brothers named a son with the same name and close in age...very annoying!)
Are we in another generation? Have the Ahasuerus' been conflated?
I have not had a chance to dig into this...yet, but until the records are perused...options/ avenues are open!
Ahasuerus Marselis is only on page 34, 186 and 202 of the book "A history of Schenectady during the revolution, to which is appended a contribution to the individual records of the inhabitants of the Schenectady District during that period by Hanson, Willis Tracy, jr"
It only mentions, He was a Captain in the Third Company, etc. later it mentions who enlisted under him. (pg 170), and when he was baptised and also when he was elected as Captain, etc (pg 202). that's basically all that is in the book that I could see.
The following was sent via the private messaging system on WikiTree.com to the New Netherland project account:
"Please add Marcellus-184 as a child of Ahasuerus and Hester."
In the future, PLEASE do not use private messages to the project account to comment on individual profiles (or request connections) in that fashion. A profile message (such as this one) is more effective. It will send a message to all profile managers, and it will appear on the profile for others to see.
As previously discussed at Marcellus-184 I don't yet see evidence that Eldert Marcellus was a child of this man and his wife Hester. Please add your evidence (sourced information) to the Marcellus-184 profile before requesting the connection again.
