Biography

Anthony was a Friend (Quaker)

Anthony was born on 28d 2m 1751 [28 Apr 1751].[1] He was the son of Joseph and Sarah Walters[1]

He married Ruth Dakin, daughter of Timothy and Lydia, on 21d 10m 1774 [21 Oct 1774].[2] He had produced a certificate from the Purchase monthly meeting earlier that month.[3]

Anthony, Ruth and their daughter Ruth were received on certificate at the New York monthly meeting from the Amawalk monthly meeting on 6d 7m 1808 [6 Jul 1808].[4]

He died on 9d 6m 1813 [9 Jun 1813].[5]

Notes

  • Quaker Calendar - There has been much confusion over the dates in Quaker records. Friends used numbered months and days rather than what they considered pagan names for them (i.e. "Thursday" coming from "Thor's Day"). Thus, when the secular calendar was changed in 1752, making January the first month instead of March, Friends began calling January "First Month".
