Biography

Christiana was born about 1813 in Nova Scotia. She appears on the 1881 Census of Canada, age given (68), at Amherst, Cumberland County, NS. She gives her heritage as German, birthplace Nova Scotia. She and husband Robert are living with their son Leander and his family, as well as their youngest son Thomas and Thomas’s wife Ellen (Leander’s brother and sister-in-law).^[1]

Christiana and Robert appear on the 1891 census, now living at Maccan with their daughter Elizabeth, Elizabeth’s husband George Brown (my 3X great-grandparents), and Elizabeth and George’s daughter Hannah. Christiana now gives her age as (78), and indicates the place of birth of her father as ‘Holland’, although this is possibly a corruption of ‘Deutsch’ (family records indicate that Christiana’s father, George (Richter) Rector was a Hessian recruit during the Revolutionary War, born in Germany). The record further states that the place of birth of Christiana’s mother was New Brunswick, also consistent with family records. ^[2]
