Biography

Tillman was born in 1824 in Madison County, Alabama. His father, Jesse McGee, received a land patent in Madison County in 1818, and the family moved to this area from Laurens County, South Carolina sometime prior to 1820. ^[1] Jesse and wife Stacy sold this property in 1835 and purchased property in Mulberry, Lincoln County, Tennessee. ^[2] Tillman married Sarah Bevill in Madison County, Alabama on 12 Apr 1855. ^[3] Tillman died in Lincoln County, Tennessee of pneumonia on 21 Mar 1893. ^[4] His death notice was listed in the Fayetteville Observer Newspaper on 30 Mar 1893. It reads, "Near Booneville, March 21st, 1893, of pneumonia, Mr. T. L. McGee, aged 68 years. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and was an honest, conscientious citizen. Elder J. G. Woods conducted the funeral service." ^[4]
