DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jim by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jim:

Hey, Jim...just thought I would ask one last time if you know of anyone I could contact who would have any more information about Shaffer Connections or about Shaffer genealogical research. Thanks.

My name is Tim Shaffer. I was doing some general online research and stumbled upon what appeared to be a listserv that made reference to a publication/newsletter called Shaffer Connections. Is anyone still involved with that? It looked like most of the communications there were about 15 years old.

Anyway, I am the great-great grandson of Solomon Levi and Anna Mariah Belle Demarest Shaffer. I have not been able to trace the family back past Solomon and Anna with any degree of confidence. Have you done any research in this area? Have you been in contact with anyone who has additional information on the ancestors of Solomon Levi Shaffer? Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Tim, At first I thought you were my first cousin with that name but we don't have a Solomon or Anna in our line. I was the editor of the Shaffer Connections but it became too much work so I do other things now. My Shaffers go from Grandpa Benjamin (Hilda Schott) Shaffer to Great Grandpa Frank (Mary Mock) Shaffer, then from there we have a Levi R Shaffer from Levi S Shaffer and our first known Shaffer is David Shaffer.

Jim: Thanks for the quick reply.

Do you know if anyone has continued the Shaffer Connections publication or where I might be able to get my hands on any copies or research? I live in Birmingham, Alabama, but am planning a visit to see my daughter ( a senior at Penn State) and my 88-year-old uncle (on my mom's side), with a potential stop in Reading, PA to spend some time in the county's historical archives. I suspect that my Levi Shaffer may have come from Berks County, but not sure. I was hoping someone else might have done enough research to give me more confidence that I would find something there.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

The England Project may fit your research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

your Brown's do not cross mine. Even though I have: a lot of James in the name:

James Emmerson Brown, Robert Emmerson Brown, Calvin James, and Ellwood James. They were in Rhode Island with Varnum and Thomas then Ontario Canada until immigration to Michigan and Wyoming. Happy hunting!

Welcome back James

I am pleased to confirm you as a full member, and welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

I would suggest starting with the https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:New_Member_How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site, and find many cousins you never knew existed.

Happy tree climbing
