Biography

Born in 1934 to Desmond Annesley Vaughan Kenealy and Alida Catherina Theodora de Smidt at their home in Orange Grove, Johannesburg. Schools in Johannesburg were Mrs Tannick's Undercliff Preparatory and St John's College, which I attended from 1942 to 1952, matriculating in 1951. I stayed on for 6th Form, but gave this up after 4 months; the other students were only there to play in the 1st team or become Head-of-House and such non-academic reasons. I was accepted into University of Cape Town to study Mechanical Engineering in 1953 and graduated with B,Sc. in 1958. Thereafter I joined the Vacuum Oil Co at their Cape Town head office. I had become engaged to Maureen Jean MacBride of Kimberley in 1958, who was a Medical Technologist, working with Dr M.C. Botha at the Western Province Blood Bank. We married in Cape Town in September 1959. As soon as we had returned from honeymoon, Vacuum transferred me to their Natal Branch, in Durban, where I was the Distribution Engineer, in charge of all vehicles from East London in the South East to Vryheid in the North West of the Branch. Maureen was accepted as a Blood Technologist in the Natal Blood Transfusion Service and worked at King Edward Hospital.

Hi Brian

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-453861

Elizabeth's maiden name was Schola, as per the sources on her profile

Could you please amend her Last Name at Birth or add me to her Trusted List so I can make the change myself.

Thanks Steve

I can see that you're not putting sources, but could you at least enter the country. Without that, I can't help and add sources, because I have no way of knowing which person you're referring to.
Hi Phillip,

Archibald Kennedy and Catherine Hunter was born and lived in Scotland. That is all we know, have not been able to find any further trace of them. Our South African Genealogy Register states that their son John Hunter Kennedy was from Aberdeen, Scotland. (According to Geni born on 4 September 1802. ) Wish we could somehow find more information so I can update my family tree.

Regards,

Joey Cordier

Hi Brian, Thanks for your work on WikiTree. I'm following up as I noticed you have been creating pre-1700 profiles without adequate sources. You may find it helpful to review the Help: Pre-1700 profiles page. Also coordinating with a relevant project about you work can be useful. Kind regards, Gillian, Ranger on Duty

Hi Brian, a belated warm welcome to WikiTree! Many / most of the South African genealogical lines and profiles of the eigtheenth and seventeenth periods (and earlier) have already been made. Many have also been validated with primary sources. I see that you have already taken the Pre-1700 Quiz, self-certifying in order to understand better how to de pre-1700 genealogical work on WikiTree. You have created one or two duplicates which is something to avoid, but everyone has done it at one time another already. There are some protocols that we follow in these two South African projects though.

Perhaps you would like to join the South African Roots Project ? Besides links to sources, there help pages that are also useful.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or special event. Read the goals and tasks of the project and join if it is a good fit.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Hello Brian!

You've been a member for a few weeks so I thought I would check in to see how it's going. Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions? Most of us have questions after all that information!

I want to help! Click my name, send me a private message or ask in the comment section of my page. Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Cindy ~ WikiTree Messenger

PS To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Happy to hear you have overcome the problems you were having and have started to review any duplicates in your Gedcom that may already be on the tree.

Thank you for volunteering, Brian!

You are now a full member of the WikiTree community. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Start with the New Member How-To pages — they are really useful as you add profiles and learn your way around.

When you are ready take a look at projects, there may be a One Name Study for your surnames, or one covering your research location(s). You could join the England Project and Ireland also has projects.

Take your time, and let me know if you need any help using the site. Hilary ~ WikiTree Greeter

P.S. If you get error messages when you click links from WikiTree emails, try the links from your profile page.
