Biography

William was born in Tennessee, United States in 1797, the son of William Johnston Sr. (abt.1760-1835) and Elizabeth (McGaughey) Johnston (1763-1819).

William married Mary Macklin in about 1817, probably in Tennessee. The couple had 13 children over the next 25 years, all in Alabama.

William became guardian to the children of John Miller Johnston after his death in 1819. Years later, William and Abel Johnston were both given guardianship of the children of a Samuel Johnston who died in McCracken County, Kentucky in 1836.

Shortly after his wife's death in 1846, left Alabama for Cherokee County, Texas, He married Elizabet Duckett and the couple had three children.

William died in 1870 in Cherokee County, Texas. He is buried in either Knoxville Cemetery, Troup, Cherokee County or Concord Cemetery, Concord, Cherokee County. The headstone is missing and the exact location is not known.[1]
