Hi Christiaan,

We're so happy to see you are still active on WikiTree and caring about the Dutch profiles. The Dutch Roots Project is looking forward to give the project a new fresh start to put the Dutch in a more prominent place on the WikiTree map. The project is currently managing over 50,000 profiles and the total number of Dutch profiles on WikiTree exceeds 500,000! Within the project we are monitoring the quality of the Dutch profiles and assisting other WikiTreers in producing those profiles. We would love to pick up some other tasks but to do so we need more volunteers. This is why we check in with the members of the DRP to see if you would like to help us expand.

1) Would you like to do some volunteer work for the Dutch Roots Project? 2) If yes, what kind of work would you prefer to do within the Dutch Roots Project? E.g. translating, sourcing, or something else you want to work on?

We hope for a positive reaction but please don't feel obliged to volunteer. We just want to have a group of persons we can ask to help us with certain activities

Kind regards,

Jan, on behalf of the Dutch Roots Project

Hoi Jan,

Fijne avond,

Jan

Hi Christiaan

I see that you have uploaded a GEDCOM. The GEDCOM will not automatically populate your tree, it generates a GEDCOMpare report. The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

If you have questions about how WikiTree works, let me know. To contact me, log into WikiTree, and go to your profile. Use the Reply link below my comment to be sure that I will be notified. Alternatively, click my name to visit my profile. From there, you can leave a comment, or send a private message.

Best of luck with your research!

Hi Lothar

I have a lot of people from before 1812 that have no real birthdate, only the date that they were christened was registrated, mostly 0-8 days after their birth. Is there a possibility I can tell Wikitree to take the christening day as birthday. I have in my Gedcom over 50% people who are already in Wikitree. It costs me too much time to match them one after the other. This is my first Gedcom, with almost 900 persons. I have still about 60.000 persons on my system at home who are not in WikiTree.

posted by Christiaan te Raa
Hi Christiaan

There is no way to do this automatically in WikiTree.

You have to edit all profiles by hand and use the option "about/uncertain" at the birthday field.

Or, if your software can do this, you edit your tree with your software and generate a new GEDCOM with the changed data.

I hope this helps.

Take care

Hi Christiaan,

Thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To find other potential relatives, continue adding sourced profiles for other lines until you can connect on all branches. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.

If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, use the reply link to let me know. Have fun!

Hi Chris,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz and joining the Dutch_Root Project!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Other Projects can be found here if you would like to join another Project.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)
