Annetje was born in 1659 (Christening 2 November 1659) in Flatbush, Kings, New York, daughter of Barent Joosten and Sytje Laurens , Annetje died on 17 June 1717. [1][2][3] Annetje was the oldest child of Barent Joosten and Sytie Laurens of Flatbush. Barent had been a native of Witmont in Emberdelt and he was referred to as 'Barent Joosten ridder' as he appeared on the Dougan Patent.
Pieter had a 'silver hilted" sword' which he willed to his son Jan. His will also names his second wife but her last name was found by elimination analysis on the church baptism records. Aertje may have been the daughter of Teunis Gysbertsen Bogart and Sarah Joris Raplaje. She was also the widow of Theodore Polhemus. Pieter took the oath of allegiance in 1687 and he and Annetje are listed as long time members of the Midwout DRC in 1677. His Family Bible contains the records of his children in the dutch language.
A continuing article in the 1978 NY G. § B. Record shows that Pieter is mentioned in the deeds of the Reeden Island Tract on the coast of Delaware as an adjacent tract owner. He evidently speculated i n the real estate of that area although the original deed record for his investment has not been found.
All of Pieter's children were from the marriage with Annetje Barends (also Barents, Barentse, Strijkker) . [4] He was named on the Dougan Patent and was commissioned High Sheriff of Kings Co,. NY Nov. 2 , 1683. He was a Captain of the Foot Militia in 1689 and a Judge of The Court 1720-22. His house in Flatbush (torn down about 1847) was a stately Holland brick building in olden Dutch style It had the following design of blue and red glazed bricks over the doorway. The home also had a 'Great Southern Room and a well' as described in his will. This land was handed down many generations in his family.
On June 10, 1710 Pieter bought from the brothers Aert, Matthias and David Aerson of Brooklyn, four thousand acres of farmland along the Millstone River in NJ. He never did live there but his sons Barent and Jacob, along with the four sons of his son Jan, settled on it founding some of the Somerset Co. branches of the family. At that time the Dutch thought the British rule oppressive so they wanted their children to livee under the more lenient government of the New Jersey Proprietors. [5]
