Biography

England Orphan Team
Anna (Conway) Strutt has completed the England Project's Pre-1700 Orphan Trail II.

I was born in Elsdon, Porrirua, New Zealand. The closest large city is Wellington which is the capital of New Zealand. We lived on the coast in Titahi Bay. In July of 1969 when I was 11 yrs. old I emigrated to Ottawa, Canada with my parents and four siblings.

I married David L. Strutt in 1981.

I was inspired in about 2019, due to injury and by my cousins in New Zealand to continue the work of my late aunt, June (Morrison) Scrivener, who was a genealogist. She had compiled and researched a family tree of Scriveners, my mothers branch of the family, going back seven generations before the advent of the computer! I had acquired the family tree from my cousins who over the years sent me pictures and updates of the Scrivener family tree.

I also inherited the family tree of the Strutt/Lett family (my inlaws), my husband's family, in the form of a hardcover book called, "Our Family Tree-A History of our Family. Inside this book were many scribbled notes, dates, names and anecdotes by the late Audrey (Lett) Strutt. The names and dates go back several generations, particularly on the "Lett" side of the family and connects with the who's who of the founders of Bytown (Ottawa, Canada) and a slew of gifted Canadian artists, politicians, writers and characters that would delight even the most novice of genealogists such as myself. I was delighted to able to contribute, record and validate the information in a comprehensive format like Wikitree.

Hi Anna!

I wrote to you recently as part of the England Project's annual check-in with our project members. I haven't heard back from you. I hope you are well.

If you could please drop me a quick note to confirm whether you are still interested in the project and wish to remain an active member, that would be very helpful.

If we don't hear from you within the next 2 weeks, we will assume you are no longer active in the England Project and remove you from our list of project members. You would be most welcome to re-apply to join the project at a later time by signing-up on the project’s G2G welcome post.

Many thanks!

Hi Anna, thank you for your interest on those pre-1700 and pre-1500 English profiles. I notice that several times you have used Find A Grave as a source, when the Find A Grave entry itself has no photograph of a memorial inscription or headstone and no other source. As Find A Grave information is user uploaded, if there is no verification on the entry, then it could well be wrong. I've also noticed that on a couple of profiles you have removed "England" from the marriage place field. Where there is no reliable source for a more specific location, England is better than nothing. If you could please add it back that would be much appreciated. Cheers, Elizabeth co-leader England Project. :-)

I noticed you answered this week’s question about New Zealand. The New Zealand Project is being re-activated. Would you like to be a member and have a badge? If so, please answer this post or message me. I’ll add your badge and also send you the link to the Kiwi Crew Discord server. There is no obligation to take part in challenges, but you may like to work with others to create quality New Zealand profiles. We’re a really friendly bunch.

Hello. I am Glenda Thomson Walker from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I have been doing geneology of my family tree for the last 40 years and have entered much of my information in Ancestory.ca. I am now adding information into the wikitree forum. I have all of my father and his descendants books from when they immigrated to Canada in 1830. Going through the Ferguson part of the tree I have noted that Peter Ferguson and his spouse Margaret (Stewart) Ferguson have all the correct dates and Peter Ferguson's parentage is also correct.... but.... all of the children that you have added to the wiki tree do NOT match with the children that I have in my fathers books. I have their names, their spouses, and their birth and death dates. I have also verified their information as well.
Hi Anna, can you add the source for the new birthdate for https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Wakelee-125 Ebenezer Wakelee? I've not seen an exact date for him before. Thanks!
Hi Diane, I honestly can't remember where I got the source for this birth date. I am somehow DNA connected to the Wakelee/Frisbies but I don't know how. So after putting half of Connecticut on my Ancestry tree I added some profiles to Wikitree where I can crosscheck with other sources. I'll often add details to other related profiles if I see a good source that has the information for the that profile. I'll look into it and find a source if I can find one. Pls don't change it till I check it. I'll get back to you.

Hi Ann, Can you add the source you used to change the birth on https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sturtevant-10? The new birth makes her much too young to be the mother of several of the children. Thanks for helping to improve WikiTree

Hi Anna,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Hi Lizzy, Amy and Joan,

Sorry for the late response and thanks for checking in. I completed my OT1 about the end of Oct 2020. Since then I thought it would be a good idea to go back and improve the multiple profiles I had added to Wikitree using my new found knowledge from doing the OT1. Then I decided to confirm the profiles of immediate family DNA-wise. Unfortunately, judging by the emails I keep getting from John Kingman, I didn't do a good job of this. It takes time to go back and correct the DNA confirmation sentences and figure things out. That's been keeping me pretty busy. I just got another email from John with about 70 profiles that I need to correct so it's going to take me another month. I'm not sure exactly what the problem is yet, but I think it is more the format of the DNA confirmation sentences than the data or lack thereof that's in the sentence. I've checked the relationships to the MRCA and those are solid. If you can think of any way to help me that would be great. I'm a little overwhelmed by the shear amount of work involved. Regardless, this is my project for at least the next month. Kind regards, Anna (Conway-3024)

Hi Anna. Thanks for your help with the Hesketh profiles. Can you explain why you have decided that Grace Towneley was the mother of Robert Hesketh, please? I know Thepeerage, citing Burke says so, but the two other sources on the profile say otherwise. What was the reason for your decision? In the absence of primary sources we must evaluate all available sources before presenting a conclusion. Cheers, C.

Ciao! This is just a general check-in for members of the Italy project. I am checking to see who is still interested in being a member of the project as we go through some much needed restructuring. I was also wondering what teams you would like to be on. We’ve created teams for each part of Italy. North, South, Islands etc. They will be explained further in an upcoming g2g post. Stay tuned. For now, please let me know if you are still interested in the project and if you’d like to be a member of a team.

Hi Chris, Not sure how I can be of help. I'm searching for confirmation re: origins of my great grandfather, Umberto Conti b. 1881 in Castelvecchio Pascoli, Tuscany, Italy. I have him in my Wiki tree and also in an Ancestry Tree but no DNA matches except for some "mystery cousins" as a result of an illicit affair who live in New York, USA.

If you know of a way I could be of assistance to you please let me know. Kind regards, Anna Strutt [Conway-3024]

Hey, Anna. There's a lot you can do. For now adding people from your tree is the best thing you can do. The teams, I believe, is to just gauge what people are interested in researching. For example, I have ancestors in Calabria and Campania. I am interested in focusing on the southern part of the country.

The Italy project can probably help with Umberto if you need help. =D For now I'll put you on the central team. Hopefully, someone there can help smash that brick wall. The teams are also supposed to do that and help people research a specific area. Good luck!

Hello Anna,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

The Germany Project or the England Project may fit your research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

If you have any questions, click reply below this message and I will get back to you.
