Biography

John Chapman was born in 1500. He is the son of John Chapman and possibly Joyce (Edith) Burton

"It is possible that what was going on in the north (of England) was a didactic demonstration that the activities of the recently arrived seminarists were not compatible with the prevailing culture of largely Conformist Catholicism in the region."
Keep in mind that these were the years of Queen Elizabeth's protestant reign.

"Priest and former minister John Chapman, was arrested on 7 August 1582 was spared the death penalty, but he remained stubbornly silent when asked whether Elizabeth was "supreme head and governess" ... he went into exile and did not come back. "[1]
