Mikayla Whitaker was born in Missouri. She is currently working on pursuing a career in Marine Biology and researching her family history.

Ancestral History

My Whitaker family moved from England to Buncombe County, North Carolina in the late 1760s, where they resided for a few years before moving to Letcher, Kentucky (where a Whitaker and Caudill cemetery still resides). I am directly related to Margaret Lisle and her husband Robert Whitaker.

According to Ancestry.com my estimated origins are in the following countries: England, Scotland, Germany, and Ireland.

My paternal side was from England, Scotland, and Ireland, while my maternal side was from Germany and France.

Hello I saw that you made my grandma Sarah Ann Keeneys page I was wondering how you know about her? My daughter and I are making a family tree and we have the families best kept secret so finding out info is tricky. We are just starting out and learning. Edgar Keeney is my Great grandfather and Rosie is my Great Granny.

Hi Jennifer!

I did a bit of research and Rosie is my great aunt on my dad’s side. I’m a descendant of her sister Clara Uhlin and Robert Potter.

This would make us cousins though I’m not sure what specific type.

Thank you and have a great evening!

Hi Mikayla, I am a bit confused, but we show to be 13th cousins through my mother’s line, which is not Whitaker at all. I was expecting to find a connection through my Dads line as his mother’s maiden name was Whitaker her people came down to Texas from Kansas. I will have to research this some more to see if we have a closer link. 😊
Hello, Cousin Mikayla.

Thank you for your message on being related via the John Adams Family. I did look up our relationship for I have Adams on both my father's line and my mother's line and both lineages extend back to Halifax, VA. We are related via my mother's bloodline that extends to John Francis Adams and Katherine Napier (Nipper). Last year I did a great deal of work on WikiTree on documenting the parents of John Francis Adams of Northumberland County, Virginia, and also worked on my father's line to Gabriel Adams of Stafford/Fairfax, Virginia. A lot of research but very worthwhile.

I have viewed records on your Adams of Wilkes, North Carolina. A lot of research papers with details on the John Hobbs Adams line of Wilkes, North Carolina (https://www.werelate.org/wiki/Person:John_Adams_(284) that has been connected to George Adams of Loudoun, Virginia. It was great research.

Thanks for contacting me. Great to know an Adams cousin!

Hi Juliet!

That's really interesting! I also have Adams on both my mother's and my dad's side of the family. My Great-Grandma Wise Anna Jane Wise was born an Adams and I believe they originated from Germany and Austria. There are several Adams' on my Dad's side and I am related to you through my Dad's Adams line. So far I haven't found any relation between my parent's Adams line.

Hi, Mikayla!

I noticed that you have some Uhlins in your family.

My biological maternal gr. grandmother was a Uhlin, as well: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Uhlin-2 ... we just learned of her in the past 10 years. With the help of some generous Swedish genealogists here, I've been able to learn that her father was born an Eriksson but for reasons not known, he adopted the name "Uhlin" when they started moving away from patronymic names in Sweden. (his profile: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Eriksson-1173)

Anyway, I was surprised to see the same surname come through in my feed a while back! So, nice to meet you even if we're not officially related! :-)

BTW, if you wouldn't mind, I'd be interested to see if I could identify your 2nd gr. grandfather's parents and go from there. I do have one family from the Uhlins that came to America. (edited to add: Strike that. Two of the brothers came to America; one settled in Wisconsin, and the other died in California after being mugged: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Uhlin-15).

Thanks --

Julie

Hi Julie!

My grandma and I have been collaborating on my Ancestry tree to add her family tree in it. So some of the information I post on here I still need to add sources. I have gotten all the way to my eighth? Great Grandfather Uhlin. I know that my 2nd GR. Grandma moved from Colorado Springs to Missouri. I believe that her grandfather John Fredrick Uhlin was from Gersbach, Loerrach, Baden, Germany. This family tree is confirmed through DNA matches. I still need to add siblings, so if we are related we're most likely related through siblings or further up the family line! I look forward to collaborating with you!

Here's the link to my 2nd GR. Grandma Clara: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Uhlin-31

Thanks again! ~ Mikayla M. Whitaker

Good morning, Mikayla!

I went back and re-read some of the information one of my Swedish genealogy friends added for my Uhlin family. It seems like my 2nd gr. grandfather chose that surname when they began to move away from patronymic surnames in Sweden. (his profile: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Eriksson-1173)

As of now, there's no information to tell us why he chose "Uhlin." :-/ Most people would choose something related to a location, but it doesn't seem like he did that. So, unfortunately, I don't think there is any link.

I'll just enjoy watching your updates come by in my feed, anyway. :-)

Hi Mikayla,

Thanks self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Collaboration with Pre-1700 Project members is essential for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because those ancestors are usually shared by many descendants.

It looks like the England and Scotland Project would be a good fit based on your branch of WikiTree. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)
