DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Jonathan or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
  • Jonathan Gilbreath: Family Tree DNA Y-DNA Test 37 markers, haplogroup R-M269, FTDNA kit #971767
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jonathan:

Hi Jonathan, I notice you have connections to the Eakin family (as it is spelled in early days). My spouse Larry Copes-104 is directly descended from these same Eakins. And you two are also connected through Albert Pierce-6977, whose wife's sister is Larry's grandmother. I think you and Larry will have some interesting DNA connections, and I will try to figure them out. Best wishes on your research, Jane Snell Copes

Hello! Thank you. I look forward to hearing more of our DNA connections. I wish you the best in your research as well.

I just realized that my Larry does not share any Pierce DNA, so it won't be quite so exciting a connection as I first thought. Larry's second cousin (granddaughter of Albert Pierce is Mary Pierce-6975, whose line goes back a long way to George Pearce-2660.

I had made a post about my main source for my information. I have also several other sources. They are the Bibles that belonged to my Great-Grandmothers, and they have information in the records section which I have used.

Notes on Powell Family Tree and Allied Families by Ernest Wayne Powell

The book I use as my main source was self-published in 2002 and mailed to various relatives in 2002 also. The author, my great-uncle, compiled his research by going through many records in libraries, court houses, archives, historical societies, cemeteries and by gleaning information from relatives who had compiled much information on their families. One of his major sources was his aunt Mattie (Powell) Hall (Hall-17097), who was the last living member of her generation of the family. It took Uncle Ernest more than three years to compile the information, and was greatly helped by his family. With this book being self-published, it is unlikely to be found in any bookstores or in any Ancestry.com database. What I have seen through other sources while compiling the family tree here on Wikitree has proven to me that his sources were correct. It may take me quiet a while, but I hope to use his book to compile the family tree compiled herein on Wikitree, and hopefully be of help to others from the same tree who are searching for their roots.

Hello. I do not know much about my family tree, but I have compiled the tree linked to my profile based on the research of other family members of mine and on the memories shared by family also. If you are a descendant and/or moderator of a person whose profile matches a profile you have created, please do let me know. The profiles I created are based on the information given to me by other family members, as I stated above. I do not often find matches to the information I present, and therefore create a profile myself. Sometimes I do find a perfect match, and am unsure about contacting the moderators of the matches. If there is a match, one of the reasons I do not contact the moderators is that I do not know how or why they do not know about the information that I have provided in my profiles. For example, there are ancestors of mine who have had other spouses and children than those listed by my relatives whose research I have used to compile my profiles. The matches to the profiles I create often have nearly the same information, but do not list certain bits of information that are included in my profiles for the same people. This could be due to not talking about their family. It could also be due to not talking to their family. One of my great-grandmothers was practically disowned someone because she "married beneath her". That is, she was from a well-to-do family and her husband was a poor farmer. Therefore, some relatives of hers might not know she even existed. Since then, her relatives have contacted some of her children and grandchildren. As stated above, I do not contact the moderators of the matches because I am unsure if I should. Another reason I do not contact the moderators of the matches is that if there was a rift in the family for some reason, they might not want to hear from any descendants of the person(s) blamed for the rift. Again, please do contact me if there is a match between my profiles and yours. Then, if/when possible, we can work on merging the two.

We don't match on Ancestry for some reason, but on Gedmatch we do match on Chr 6. 11cm. It's low, but still a match in my opinion.
Hello! Ah. I wonder why Ancestry does not have us as a match.

I believe Ancestry is just a limited test, compared to others. Someone else may be able to explain it better.
Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one or more which best fit your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Hi

You need to have at least one source for each profile you create, so I would look at your source to see if it gives you any clues. Birth and death dates can be marked as estimated/uncertain, before this date or after this date. For example, if all you have is a birth record for a Joe Smith stating he was born in 1800 and his father is listed as John Smith, you know your John Smith was born before 1800. If all you have is a name with no other information, you might want to post in the G2G forum to see if anyone else is working on that person and is able to provide you with more information.

Hi Jonathan

Perhaps you have noticed at the top of your pages on wikitree, your surname followed by a number. This is your profile id. To fix the problem with your brother showing as your half-brother, you will need the profile id's of the two profiles for your mother. Then working from the profile you want to keep, you are going to scroll down to the bottom of the screen on the profile you want to keep. At the bottom left, look for pending merges. Under this category, click on the link for initiate a merge. On this next screen, you will enter the profile id of the other profile for your mother. For reason for the merge, you would put that they are duplicates for the same person. As you created both profiles, you should be able to approve the merge on each of the profiles.

PS Tags are clickable links to a page of other people who have that tag and links to resources. To get the best results, add separate tags for each surname and spelling variation of interest. You can have up to 20 total.

Dear Mrs. Hoag:

Thank you for your email. I am indeed enjoying WikiTree. Things are going very well. I have not had much time for research as of late and am getting back to filling in my family tree. I have not yet seen the New Member How-Tos page, but I look forward to checking it out as soon as is possible. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Sincerely, Jonathan Gilbreath

Hi Jonathan

I am sorry you can't have 2 emails associated with your account, as your email serves as your login. However, you can change the email: To change your e-mail address, click to the edit page of your profile and replace the e-mail address in the E-Mail Address field. See and then save your changes. (Do not save your profile with an empty E-Mail Address field. See Close Account instead.)

Note that you will need to click the save button twice because the first time a pop-up will ask you to confirm the change.

Also note that your e-mail address is your WikiTree login. The next time you come to the site you will need to use your new e-mail address.
