Robert was born in 1759. He passed away in 1843.
Early in the Revoutionary War, in December 1776, Robert Reynolds enlisted in the Rhode Island militia to serve in Capt. Simon Clarke’s Company, part of Col. Robert Brown’s regiment. For 8 months starting April 1777, Reynolds served as a private and then orderly sergeant in Capt. Richard Bailey’s Company, Col. Charles Dyer’s Regiment and was in Seymour’s expedtion. Beginning April 1778 he served as orderly sergeant in some regiment and was in Sullivan’s expedition in Rhode Island. This was General John Sullivan’s American-French attempt to capture Newport from the British. The Battle of Newport (July 29 - August 31 1778) was going well but British naval forces and a hurricane forced French troops to retreat to Boston and Sullivan’s force to return to Rhode Island. In April 1779 Reynolds rejoined Capt. Richard Bailey’s Company, in Col. Charles Dyer’s Regiment, as an orderly sergeant. In 1780 he remained in Col. Dyer’s regiment as orderly sergeant, this time in Capt. Joshua Webb’s company. He was later awarded a pension for his war service.
