I grew up in Hemel Hempstead, before moving to various places in St Albans in my early 20's. I then met my future husband and moved to London for 15 years. We moved to Loughton in Essex in 2008.
In my day job I have worked for London Underground since 2006. Previously I was in retail management for 7 years, pensions and life assurance administration at a bank for 3 years and an IT system tester for the same bank for 4 years.
I will get round to adding more to this in due course.
Paul was born in 1968 in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England, United Kingdom. He was the son of Tom Burlinson and Madge (Whitehouse) Burlinson.[1] Paul was the youngest of 6 children, his siblings being Barbara, Diane, Alan, Robert and Denise.
When Paul was 4, his father Tom Burlinson died, in 1973.
Paul grew up and went to school in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. He lived briefly in Letchworth, and about 2 years in St Albans before meeting his life long partner Andrew and moving to East Ham, London, in about 1997. They lived there for about 11 years before moving to Loughton, Essex, in 2008.
Paul's first job was for a stationery company, Calco, in Apsley, Hemel Hempstead. He hated it. He left after about 6 months, and got a job at WHSmith in Hemel Hempstead as stationery manager. He was moved to WHSmith in Stevenage, but as the journey was long, about 90 mins each way by bus. Paul left and applied for a job at Our Price Video, which was opening in the Hemel Hempstead. He worked there for a year, before promotion to assistant manager at St Albans branch. The company was purchased by WHSmith, and rebranded as Playhouse. Paul was soon promoted to manager back at Hemel Hempstead branch. On meeting Andrew in 1996 and moving to East Ham in London, Paul got a sideways move back to Our Price Music, and worked as manager of the Ilford, Wood Green and Brentwood branches. Finding the travelling challenging, he left Our Price, for a job as trainee manager at Sainsburys. It wasn't for him, so after 6 months he left and got a job at Barclays Life Assurance in nearby Forest Gate. He stayed at Barclays, in their life assurance and pensions business for 3 years before being promoted to Testing Analyst at Barclays Wealth Management at their offices in Canary Wharf and Tower Bridge. Paul was often travelling the country with different projects, including to Peterborough, Derby and Glasgow.
Paul then joined London Underground, where he still works today.
Paul's sister Denise died after a long fight with cancer, in 2007.
Paul's mother Madge died in 2009 after a terrible struggle with vascular dementia over many years.
Paul has written personal obituaries and profiles for both his dear sister and mother, and the links can be found at the top of this bio.
Paul married Andrew Ely on 18 February 2015 at Epping Registry office, Epping, Essex, England.[2] Before being married they had been together for 20 years. Same sex marriage became legal in England and Wales in 2014 (finally).

Thank you for all the work that you have done for the England Project. I do not seem to have had a response from you from the recent England Project check in.
If I do not hear from you within the next 2 weeks I will presume that you wish to leave the project. If you leave us, I hope that you will want to re-join us sometime in the future. You can do this by responding to our G2G post. https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1516540/is-2023-your-year-to-join-the-england-project
Regards Joan,
England Project Leaders
Sorry for not replying sooner.
I would very much like to continue in the project. I've had a very busy couple of months (we are massive Eurovision fans, we go every year, and the whole world stops in the run up and just beyond Eurovision each May. With this and selling our house, I haven't had much time for Wikitree of late. This is likely to continue for a bit longer.
Happy to stay as a sourcerer, and do the occasional Notable profile.
On behalf of the England Project, I would like to thank you for your commitment to the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve English profiles!
The England Project Leaders like to touch base with each of our members periodically to make sure everything is going well. This is our formal annual check-in with you.
Are you happy to with your current project team choices? Would you like to join any other teams?
Also, we would really like to hear which team is currently your highest priority. If you are a member of more than one team, could you please rank them from highest priority to lowest? Thank you! If you don’t see yourself as being part of a team, please let us know.
We also welcome any feedback on things you would like to see the project do more of in the future.
I look forward to hearing from you. Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message.
On behalf of all the Leaders, thank you again for all you do and we look forward to you continuing to be a part of our collaborative and fun Project!
Kind regards,
Joan, England Project Leader
We've put together a survey for you to fill out to check in with you, it will only take a moment as there are only a few questions. Filling out the survey lets us know you are still interested in coordinating your study and provides an opportunity for you to share any suggestions you may have for the project.
If you have decided to step away from your study, please reply to this comment to that effect.
I noticed that you used the Challenge Tracker to track a change during a recent Saturday Sourcing Sprint. Please consider officially joining us for the Saturday Sourcing Sprints. You can find information on the rules and how to join on the Sprints Help page. Let me know if you have any questions.
It's important to recognize that you do not have to sign up every weekend, but you do have to sign up at least once if you want to be a registered participant. No pressure, every profile with a source makes our WikiTree better, but only registered sprinters can compete for the winner's badge. Your work will continue to be included in Tracking Sheet's Unregistered total at the bottom of the help page if you do not register.
Your work is appreciated. Thanks for sourcing!
