Biography

Petrus Everardus de Haan was born in Hoorn where he was baptised on 29 June 1803 in the Roman Catholic church of the "'t Achterom" parish ^[1]. He was the son of Cornelis de Haan and Gerritje Pronk. Witness at the baptism was Treintje Pereboom taking the place of Elizabeth de Haan. The latter obviously a relative of his father; in what way they are related is unclear as yet.

On 24 April 1831 Petrus, having moved from Hoorn to Berkhout, married Catharina de Jong ^[2][3] who had also moved to Berkhout from her place of birth Avenhorn. Evert then was 27 years old and a "landman" (farmer) by trade; Trijntje was 21 and a "dienstmaagd" (maidservant) by profession. The deed shows that the parents of both spouses (Cornelis de Haan and Gerritje Pronk for Evert, Klaas de Jong and Antje Pronk for Trijntje) had died before.

He passed away in Beemster on 11 January 1833 ^[4], just 26 years old.

During his brief marriage Evert still fathered two children: Klaas (* 1832) and Antje (* 1833) who was born 8 months after he died.
