Biography

John Marsden was a convict after the Third Fleet.

John was born about 1797.

He was convicted in Surrey County and sentenced to transportation with a life term. He had previously escaped from transportation. He is described as a protestant, 5 foot 61/2 inches in height with brown hair and hazel eyes. His native place was given as Matlock Derby and his occupation as horsedealer. He was 28 years of age when transported on the Chapman which sailed to Van Diemens Land.[1]

He arrived in New South Wales in 1826 and was sent to King George Sound penal colony. The record which gives his place of residence as King George Sound states the ships name as Woodman. This may be an error as the Woodman carried female prisoners, or else John may have been transported from Van Diemens land to New South Wales aboard this ship. [2] . John was granted a Ticket of Leave passport in 1839.[3]

He passed away about 1850.
