Biography

Giovanni "Gionello / Giovanello" Bonica was born at Lipari, Provincia di Messina, Kingdom of Sicily, about 1535, of unknown parentage; and died at Lipari after 30 May 1601.[1] He married at Lipari, about 1559, Faostina Carrozza (or Durango), who was born at Lipari about 1540, of unknown parentage, and died at Lipari before 13 November 1579.

Lipari, 30 May 1601, by Reverendo Don Giovanni Tommaso Galuppi, Caterina Moleti, dau. of Nicola Angelo Moleti and Delia Carrozza. The witnesses were Paolo Monturano, Giovanni Simone Falanga, and Pietro Voi. In the 1610 Census of Lipari, Andrea Bonica, ae. 40, res. with wife (Caterinella) and their three children (Joanni, 7; Gioseppi, 4; and Francesco, 1). His taxable property included one building valued at onze 50, four parcels of land valued at onze 330, ½ ox valued at onze 4, one donkey valued at onze 3. His assets (income stamped at onze 10.9 per year, income from perpetual leaseholding valued at tarí 12 per year) totaled onze 64. His debts without specific security totaled onze 14.12.[4]

  8. Giovanni Francesco Bonica, bap. 13 9bre (Nov.) 1579; sponsor was Giovanni Battista deCordilli. Francesco Bonica di Joanne m. Lipari, 30 May 1601, by Reverendo Don Giovanni Tommaso Galuppi, Caledonia Moleti [sister of Caterina Moleti, who on the same day m. Giovanni Francesco’s sister, Giovanni Andrea Bonica]. The witnesses were Giovanni Paolo Monturano, Giovanni Simone Falanga, and Pietro Voi. Caledonia Muleti was bap. Lipari, 26 May 1580, dau. of Nicola Angelo Moleti and Delia Carrozza; sponsor was Francesco Cesario. She was bur. Lipari, 7 May 1674, ae. ca. 90: "Celedonia filia qm Nicolaii Angei Moleti etatis sue annora 90 circiter."In the 1610 Census of Lipari, Francesco Bonica, ae. 30, res. wife (Celidonia) and two children (Faustina, Delia). His taxable property included one building valued at onze 100, six parcels of land valued at onze 380, one donkey valued at onze 4, ¼ of ox valued at onze 2. His assets (income stamped at onze 12.15 per year) totaled onze 125. His debts (income stamped at onze 4.27 per year, income from perpetual leaseholding valued at tarí 6.10 per year) totaled onze 55.15.[5]
