Edith Callan Eckersall was born in 1896 [1] in Manchester, Lancashire, England, the daughter of Isaiah Eckersall and Janet Sutherland. [2]
In 1901 4-year-old Edith was a patient in Cheetham Hospital in North Manchester.[3]
Her father died in 1910.
In 1911 Edith, aged 14, was a confectioners assistant, living with her widowed mother and 4 siblings in Johnsons Square, Crumpsall, Manchester. [4]
