David married Mary Ogden on 6 August 1853 in All Saints' church, Wigan, Lancashire.[3] The couple had at least 7 children.

David died in 1868 aged 39, and was buried on 17 March 1868 in All Saints' church, Hindley, Lancashire.[4]
