Dear Germany Project member,

it's annual check-in time 2023. If you still wish to remain a member of the Germany Project, please reply to this post, by stating this intention. If we don’t hear from you in the next 30 days, your membership badge will be removed. In this case please don't be offended ... you're welcome to rejoin at any time. Please also note, that in order to receive help, with researching your German ancestors, membership is not mandatory. Just ask your questions in the G2G forum and tag them with Germany in order for knowledgeable people to see them.

If you wish to remain a member, we would like to learn more about your perception of the Germany Project in order to achieve a future development according to our members needs and wishes. For this, we created a survey, which we kindly ask you to fill-in.

In case you want to communicate, discuss and receive help about WikiTree in German, you might want to check out the WikiTree category at Compgen’s Discourse as well as the German Discord server Ahnenforschung.

Of course there’s still the official WikiTree Discord server, where we usually talk English. Feel free to learn more about Discord and the server at Help:Discord.

Hello Russ,

We wrote to you about the check-in for Profile Improvement Project (PIP) a couple of weeks ago. Would you like to continue in Biography Team Level 1 where we have placed you? That's the Team that works on improving profiles from both your own watchlist and projects you are involved with to Level 1 of the PIP Profile Standards.

If you do not wish to participate in the Project, please let us know. If we don’t hear from you within 7 days we will remove you from the Project, but we will welcome you back at any time. We would like to hear from you with any ideas or suggestions.

Dear Russ,

The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing its first annual check-in with our project members. Please review the following and let us know if you are content where we have placed you or would like to be more involved.

We are in the process of transitioning to a team structure. There will be three participant PIP Teams to start -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team which guides new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team.

You're currently identified as a member of the Biography Team Level 1, working on profiles from your own watchlist, from projects in which you are involved, and whatever else you find. Biography Teams Levels 2 and 3 will work on designated profiles for notables (Level 3) and everyday people (Level 2). Please let us know if you would like to help with a higher-level Bio Team or one of the other Teams.

You joined the Project before the Voyage started in late 2018. We would like to invite you to consider a "fast track" Voyage, especially if you would like to work at a higher level on the Biography Team. If you’re interested, choose a profile from your own watchlist for the 19th or 20th century, that you have completed to the best of your ability and compare it to the Voyage Biography Standards. If your profile is at Level 2 or better, include a link to the profile in your response to this check-in for a “fast track” review.

We would also like to invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. If you request to join our GoogleGroup, please be sure to include your Wiki ID. Neither is required; we also use the Profile_Improvement tag in G2G for Project announcements.

We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project and WikiTree. The Project’s mission is to:

Make profiles beautiful! We clean up messy biography sections and sources, and try to set standards for attractive, useful, and well-written biographies, starting with those we manage.

We know you’re working on profiles *smile* We would like to hear about successes you’ve had toward the Project’s goals. We would also appreciate any feedback you might have to help us improve the Project. Please share your thoughts in a reply to this comment or privately via private message to either of us.

Sincerely,

Debi Hoag and Robin Shaules Co-Leaders, Profile Improvement Project

Hi Russ,

It’s time for our annual Ireland Project check-in! Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know:

  • If you are happy with the team you’re on or if you’d like to make a change. It is now required that all members with an Ireland project badge work on at least one of the project’s team(s), so if you’ve not yet signed up please do so in your reply to this check-in.
  • What you think the project is doing well, and what (if any) changes you would like to see us make? Are there any teams you would like to become more active in?
  • Would you be interested in helping to work on an Ireland Project newsletter?
  • Please give us some feedback on the use of google group and discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way for us to ensure you receive project communications? If you would like to join us on either one, just let us know in your response and we will get you signed up.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within two weeks, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating in the Ireland Project, and your badge will be removed. If you wish to reapply for membership later, we will be happy to have you back. Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!

He is listed on the Navy Tablets of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. He was officially declared deceased by the Navy 31 Dec 1945. My question is this: Should I list his ROH sticker as Killed In Action; Missing in Action; or have two separate ROH stickers?

Hi David,

Thanks for using the recognition stickers for our great veterans! Since he was declared deceased, I would list the ROH sticker as KIA and note "Originally MIA, and officially declared deceased by the US Navy 31 Dec 1945"

Thank you!

Hi Russ

The United Kingdom Project has not been active since 2018 and we are now completely closing it down. We are removing all UK project badges. If you still have an interest in the UK and have not already joined another project, then you will need to join the England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales Project by answering one or more of their G2G posts. If your interest is in the British Isles and British Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories, then please contact me directly.

Hi, I am a member of the Volga German Project and am adding all the names from the book Conquering the Wind. and am now working on Major Otto Friedrich von Monjou. I did not find him in wikitree so now he has a profile started Von_Monjou-1 I think he is notable? and wondered if I could add him to the Category: Obermonjou thank you Carole

Hi Carole,

Yes the category for Obermonjou sounds appropriate., and I would include in his profile that the Colony (also Nieder-Monjou) was named in his honor.

Thank you Carole!

Hi, Russ

The Ambassadors project has been reorganizing and is looking for those who have a membership at a genealogical society, to help in spreading the word about WikiTree.

We're working on ways to improve how WikiTree connects and interacts with genealogical and local history societies. This is the kind of thing we want to do:

  • Liaise with societies: set up your local society with a free-space page and some WikiTree materials as part of a package.
  • Use social media to promote what societies are offering on WikiTree.
  • Encourage bloggers to blog about societies and the resources available to them on WikiTree.

Are you interested in participating in some way? Do you have some ideas to share?

Hi, Russ, I've noticed that you've been putting the stickers for Volga German above the Biography line, but these stickers must go under the Biography heading according to Wiki guidelines. Items like Unsourced and categories go above the Biography. Thank you for putting in the various colonies categories. Pam

Hello, Russ!

Thanks for your participation during our Connect-A-Thon 2020. It is amazing how many more profiles were created and added to our Shared Tree over the weekend. I hope you’ll join us for the Source-a-thon this fall.

Hi Russ,

I noticed that you were currently following the CEMETERIES tag, but were not yet a member of the Cemeteries Global Cemeteries Project. If you are interested in more details about the project, or are just ready to sign up, please head on over to our G2G Welcome Post for more information.

Hi,

The Global Cemeteries Project is currently undergoing our member check-in and wanted to verify that you are still active and interested in being a member of the project. Are you currently assigned to or working with one of our Cemetery Teams? If not, is there a particular Team or area you are interested in participating with? I would be delighted to help you get setup in one or more of our collaborative teams!

We use Google Groups for internal project collaboration, so if you are not yet setup for access feel free to submit a join request and we will get that approved as quick as possible. We also ask that members check their followed tags to make sure you are following the correct project tag (CEMETERIES) so you don't miss any discussions in G2G.

Last, but not least, we would like to thank you for all of your contributions to WikiTree and let you know that any ideas or suggestions for improvement you may have for the Global Cemeteries Project would greatly appreciated!

I look forward to hearing form you soon!

Hi! I was checking on people profiles in Category:Magna Carta Project - the only modern profiles in the category should be project members. Could you remove that category from your profile? The project has several tailored Descendant stickers you could use... for example, the following, from Space:Magna Carta Stickers:
Magna Carta Project logo
Descendant of several Magna Carta Surety Barons.

Give me a holler if you have any questions. For more information about joining the project, see https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/829631/magna-carta-project-badged-affiliate-memberships-available

Thanks!

Hi cousin, just a heads up, I made a profile that people may try to connect to Johann Carl Dechant and Katharina Elizabeth Leiker, on ancestry they have the wife of Sylvester Herklotz: Rosa Dechant connected to them as their daughter. Some helpful person may just think you have the wrong Rosa connected.

Hi Russ, just wanted to introduce myself as a new Kansas project worker. I can help with Jackson county and Sherman co. I am still getting used to the site. I have several lines in Jackson co and 2-3 in Sherman and grew up there.

Hello Russ,

I am just wondering how you get the little flag on your profile that says: Russ Gunther has German ancestry. I see things on a lot of peoples profiles, but I just haven't figured out how to add things like that. Can you please explain? Thank you, -Noah
