Stephen Lynn Warren was born 12 May 1947 in Bowling Green, KY, son of Glendon E. Warren and Kathleen Warren nee Embry, growing up in several communities in western KY and southern IN. His younger siblings are Sharon Gail Gipson nee Warren and Stuart Ercel Warren. His daughters are Delora Lynn (Dee Dee) Rowell, nee Warren and Stephanie Leigh Rowell nee Warren. They married brothers and their offspring are double-cousins. Stephen graduated in 1965 from Hartford High School, Hartford, KY. Like other early baby boomers, he was gainfully employed almost continuously from age 10, first by developing a Grit newspaper route in Vincennes, IN. Stephen entered UK as an engineering student on scholarship from the KY Department of Highways, but dropped out after his freshman year. He worked through the summer of 1965 as a surveying and engineering technician on construction of the Western Kentucky Parkway; then for six months after leaving UK on construction of I-75 near Berea, KY. Stephen joined Peabody Coal Company in late 1966 as a survey aide in the western KY coalfields. After progressing to mine engineer, he managed special engineering projects including development of very early computerized aerial photogrammetry engineering activities, collaborating with Park Aerial Surveys of Louisville, KY. Stephen was promoted, in the spring of 1974, to Area Engineering Manager in Jasonville, IN. He transferred to Evansville, IN in 1977 as Director of Engineering and Environmental Affairs. Stephen requested, in 1981, to be moved into operations management. He shifted into several operations superintendent positions over the next few years in southern IN and, with Alcoa's support, he led a team that coercively "turned around" a large, but failing, lignite mining operation that fueled the power plant for Alcoa's Sandow aluminum smelter. Stephen was promoted, late in 1985, to General Superintendent and then Director of Operations for a large division covering sites in AL, IL, IN, KY, MO, OH, and OK. Meanwhile, he attended the University of Evansville at night earning a bachelor’s degree in 1983. Stephen accepted employment with a large competing firm, Amax Coal, in late 1990 becoming President of their subsidiary, Roaring Creek Coal. Amax acquired Cannelton Industries early in 1991 adding President of Cannelton, headquartered in Charleston, WV to Stephen’s responsibilities. The combined subsidiaries had operations in WV, KY, and TN and Amax Coal marketing duties for the eastern US, Canada, Europe, and Africa. Stephen elected in late 1996 to retire from the mining industry as he completed the University of Charleston’s Executive MBA program. He and his wife Debbie, in 1997, chose the Chattanooga, TN suburbs as a retirement location. By then Stephen knew he did not want to retire at age 50. He accepted a position with Cleveland State Community College and began his doctoral studies at UT-Knoxville, earning a PhD in 2002. He advised small business owners and taught business and management for working adult students for several more years. Steve and Debbie (formerly Deborah Ann Medlin) live near Apison, TN. His ancestors have been active in the Alexander Campbell – Barton Stone Reformation movement since the earliest years. Stephen and Debbie are members of the East Brainerd Church of Christ in Chattanooga. In xxxx Stephen separated from Deborah and relocated to Bowling Green, KY.

Stephen, I am happy you have found Martha so quickly.

I regret that I have no descendants for her beyond what is listed in Magna Carta Ancestors Vol II, page 122-123. Of those two, her daughter Eltonhead is linked on Martha's profile.

Edwin the son is not linked to Martha, but it's possible that Edwin Conway is her son, and father of Col. Edwin Conway; possibly the father of Mary (Conway) Ball. These last are speculations based on their locations, inferred birth dates and in-law relationships.

My interest in Martha is because she is a Gateway Ancestor - if I were a descendant I would happily provide all the known descendants. I hope this info helps.

I'm happy to help. What are you looking for? I don't see much here. Do you have all of your research located somewhere else? I'm still trying to find the gedcom file I created a while back with all of my people.

My parents, Glen & Kathleen Embry Warren, researched many years thru church & civil records, cemeteries, traveled eastern seaboard and migration paths to Butler County, KY. I followed with extensive online search, including ancestry.com. Glad to contribute to WikiTree.
