Biography

For almost as long as I can remember I had a love of history, which is now extended to genealogy. It seems I have inherited this love of history, as my great-grandmother, Genevieve (O'Connor) Driscoll, wrote a family history book in the 1940s that documents descent all the way to the Mayflower and beyond, and I am working to upload much of that work to this website to preserve it. During that time I found out that I can trace my ancestry all the way to Charlemagne via a minor Dutch noble family (Roosa) who settled in New Amsterdam, later New York, and also possibly (depending on your definition of brother-in-law) via an English noble family which settled in Virginia. I have a major in Anthropology (which comes in handy in genealogy) and a minor in Business Information Systems from Central Michigan University.

My main goal at the moment is to trace my ancestry as far back as I can in the paternal line, but it appears I have reached a dead end in William Douglas for now, so I am doing what I can to contribute to other branches of my family and Wikitree. I also really like listening to podcasts about history and science and while doing so I sometimes transcribe information from old written genealogies and also personnel information from US Civil War regiments into Wikitree which has led to a large number of contributions.

DNA

My Y-DNA Haplogroup is R-FT370604, which I discovered via a Y-DNA test from FamilyTreeDNA. I also have taken an autosomal DNA test on 23andMe and uploaded that info to MyHeritage, FamilyTreeDNA, and GedMatch; my GEDmatch Kit Number is M055274.

It's time for our annual Scotland Project check-in!

This year we are hoping to learn what our membership would like to accomplish over the next 12 months.

In case you aren't aware, this year is WikiTree's ""Year of Connections"" and the Project's leadership would like to contribute to this in as many ways as possible.

We would appreciate it if you would share your thoughts and ideas with us on how we can accomplish this goal. We would also appreciate it if you would provide some feedback on our existing goals, including:

  • If you have not yet signed up to help on one of the project's teams, which team(s) would you be interested in joining?
  • How often should we provide a Project Newsletter?
  • Have you participated in the Tartan Trail? If not, is this something you'd be interested in doing?
  • Do you have a question(s) that we could add to a Frequently Asked Questions page?
  • Any suggestions or ideas you have on ways to improve the Scotland Project in general

We continue to communicate with our Project members via Google Group (official) and Discord (unofficial), as well as G2G. You may also reach out to any of the Project leaders via WikiTree's internal messaging system at any time.

Thank you for all you do to help the Scotland Project become a knowledge hub for Scottish genealogical research! We wish you all the best in 2022!

Sincerely, Amy Gilpin on behalf of the Scotland Project Leaders

Hi Chris,

It’s time for our annual Ireland Project check-in! Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know:

If you are happy with the team you’re on or if you’d like to make a change. It is now required that all members with an Ireland project badge work on at least one of the project’s team(s), so if you’ve not yet signed up please do so in your reply to this check-in.

  • What you think the project is doing well, and what (if any) changes you would like to see us make? Are there any teams you would like to become more active in?
  • Would you be interested in helping to work on an Ireland Project newsletter?
  • Please give us some feedback on the use of google group and discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way for us to ensure you receive project communications? If you would like to join us on either one, just let us know in your response and we will get you signed up.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within two weeks, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating in the Ireland Project, and your badge will be removed. If you wish to reapply for membership later, we will be happy to have you back. Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi Chris,

We're so happy to see you are still active on WikiTree and caring about the Dutch profiles. The Dutch Roots Project is looking forward to give the project a new fresh start to put the Dutch in a more prominent place on the WikiTree map. The project is currently managing over 50,000 profiles and the total number of Dutch profiles on WikiTree exceeds 500,000! Within the project we are monitoring the quality of the Dutch profiles and assisting other WikiTreers in producing those profiles. We would love to pick up some other tasks but to do so we need more volunteers. This is why we check in with the members of the DRP to see if you would like to help us expand.

1) Would you like to do some volunteer work for the Dutch Roots Project? 2) If yes, what kind of work would you prefer to do within the Dutch Roots Project? E.g. translating, sourcing, or something else you want to work on?

We hope for a positive reaction but please don't feel obliged to volunteer. We just want to have a group of persons we can ask to help us with certain activities

Kind regards,

Margreet, on behalf of the Dutch Roots Project

Hi Chris, re Puleston-106, I don't see any reason to disregard the marriage date of ca 1255 in the text. This marriage portion is one of the few solid dates we have. Alice's father was born ca 1200 and her brother Roger did not die until 1294 when he was murdered while collecting taxes in Ireland a job he was unlikely to be doing if he was ca 70 years old. Do you have any documentary reason to change these birthdates and marriage date?

Never mind, I just noticed you added son Richard and there is some justification there, just omitted when the parents were changed. Still find it odd that Alice's brother was riding out collecting taxes in 1294 though. And then there's the 1255 grant. Are two generations mixed up here? More research may be needed.

Scotland Project Leaders check in with you at least once a year to see how you are doing. With the changes happening around the world, we understand that life is hectic right now.

When removing profiles - it’s helpful to place the profile IDs in each of the profiles affected. After time, comments are moved further down the page and the “Changes” page can be two (or more) pages long. Noting the removals in the biospace helps future Wikitreers.
