Biography

Born in Putaruru, New Zealand in 1963, raised in Waipu in Northland on a dairy farm along with my three siblings. Now living in Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty with my husband and 2 sons.

Have always been interested in genealogy which was piqued when I came across some of my closest ancestors already on Wikitree. My father had compiled a family history book over 10 years ago and I have taken the bull by the horns and expanded on that information with some corrections along the way and some "aha" moments.

A great many of my ancestors were pioneers, whether it be through emigration from England to South Africa in the mid 1800's to a land that was harsh and unforgiving, and then making the journey to New Zealand in the 1950's when the racial and political situation in South Africa was becoming tenuous; or the English migrants who came directly to New Zealand in the mid to late 1880's, a voyage of 90 days in sometimes not very pleasant conditions, to a land that was in it's infancy and so very different to the life they had left in the "homeland".

Then there was the Anglo-Irish side of the family, the Minchins; a family of 19 children (the poor mother died at the age of 43 no doubt from exhaustion). Such a large family creates a great many number of descendants and thanks to Dorothy Minchin-Comm for compiling a fascinating book "The Book of Minchin - A Family for all Seasons" which has been a great source of information and inspiration.

It was only since I started this journey that I found out I am descended from John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley, passengers on the Mayflower. A history that I would love to explore further.

Loving the collaboration that Wikitree enables and have had alot of contact from some amazing people who are delighted to finally have their ancestor profiled on a website that can be easily accessed.

Hi Linda, This is to thank you for proposing merge Re: merge of John Dennis Wills Harrison C.E. (1874-1949) & John Denis Wills Harrison (1874-1949). (I am sure the correct spelling of Denis is with one "n".) These are definitely one and the same person - (my grandfather) - son of George Denis Browne Harrison and Frances Tazeena Waller; husband of Eliza Georgina "Lily" Waller (alias Isabel Georgiana Waller alias Emily Georgina Waller ??) married 1902 in Buenos Aires and father of my Uncle deWarenne Harrison and my mother Kathleen Tazeena Harrison (m John Campbell Thorowgood, my father date uncertain).

I am very new to this amazing website so not sure yet how to edit/update.

Kind regards and thank (I suspect we are related if you have Waller blood in you !)

Nick.

Hi Linda,

In case you didn't receive, I just wanted to say thanks for your comment on Ed Carter.

Kind regards, John

Probably my fault, but I can't send a private message to Linda.

I hope she gets it, or if someone could pass it on, much appreciated.

Seems I might have a match with your Jewell family.

I have a June Carter Jewell M John Joe West, Vancouver 1950's. So far, I've only got one child (F) who died two days after birth.

June's age, etc, makes it possible that she was born in England 1922.

It would be great to hear from you.

Hi John, Thanks for your message. June Carter Jewell's mother was Annie Dorothy Shotter. I am a Shotter descendant also, going back to James Shotter (d. Apr 1837): https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Shotter-48

June Carter Jewell was born on 14 May 1922 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England. She did indeed marry John Joe West on 27 August 1948 in Vancouver. Her Obituary states she had two children; Ann and John (but these could also be either her or her husband's siblings). Unfortunately I don't have access to the Newspaper the Obituary appears in as it is behind a paywall.

If there was a second child, they could possibly still be alive.

Kind regards Linda Prole

Hi Linda,

Many thanks for that. I was fairly sure, but didn't have the proof. Great that there is a possiblilty of another child.

Just one thing, from my notes I have a possible uncle for June: Edward Carter Jewell, died in VC 1956. His wife's name is also Shotter.

Would you have any info on him?

Kind regards, John

Hi Maggie,

Only just begun, so I was wondering if you could help?

As you can see from above post, I tried to send private message to Linda, but impossible. Screen just went blank.

Strange, but if Linda gets to see our posts, then no problem.

Hi Linda,

It’s time for our annual Ireland Project check-in! Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know:

  • If you are happy with the team you’re on or if you’d like to make a change. It is now required that all members with an Ireland project badge work on at least one of the project’s team(s), so if you’ve not yet signed up please do so in your reply to this check-in.
  • What you think the project is doing well, and what (if any) changes you would like to see us make? Are there any teams you would like to become more active in?
  • Would you be interested in helping to work on an Ireland Project newsletter?
  • Please give us some feedback on the use of google group and discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way for us to ensure you receive project communications? If you would like to join us on either one, Just let us know in your response and we will get you signed up.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within two weeks, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating in the Ireland Project, and your badge will be removed. If you wish to reapply for membership later, we will be happy to have you back. Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely, Jen Hutton, on behalf of the Ireland Project

Hello! I've been adding to your Farakers - one of them married a Kirke lady. Indeed, I even met Ella Faraker (Faraker-19) once.

Hi Linda,

Thanks for all your work on Henry Minchin. My connection to the Minchins is a distant connection through the Maitland family. I've orphaned Henry so that you can adopt him.
