I have been doing genealogy for about 15 years but was caught up in the beginning with the phony trees posted online and the 19th century books written to provide royal ancestors for the prominent families of the day. Then I discovered the realities of the long hours going through microfilm at the family history centers. I'm still working at cleaning up my tree and providing valid sources. Personally I grew up in Brooklyn, NY and what is now Nassau County. My parents and grandparents lived through the great depression and were not much for family history or records. I was surprised to learn that many of my ancestors on both sides were from right there on Long Island and the furthest west any of them got was Northampton County Pennsylvania. I am new to Wikitree and looking forward to enjoyable times ahead

I am confirming you as a member of the WikiTree Community. Please note we are trying to build one Collaborative Tree which means one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add any Profiles to WikiTree.
If you need any help getting started check out the help section from the menu, top left, or head over to the G2G forum and take a minute to introduce yourself in the Tree House, you might also want to check out the introductory WikiTree video that a member created.
Our Mentor Team are a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to help you with specific problems if you have any.
Welcome! Marshall
If you have any brick walls, collaboration may help break through. Because WikiTree has only one profile for each person, the further back you go in your ancestry, the more likely cousins will find you and help out. ANY Wiki Genealogist can edit "Open" profiles (over 200 years old = open). There's also a brickwall tag in the G2G forum: brickwall Best regards, Marshall
A couple suggestions to get you started:
1. Feel free to ask a question at our G2G forum .
2. Our help pages, top right, have all sorts of useful information.
If you would like to contribute, click the volunteer button and leave a comment here on your profile to let our greeters know. You should include a little bit about how you plan to contribute to the tree.
Good luck growing your branches, and thanks for offering to help with our shared tree :)
