Biography

Lucy Britton was born in 1864. She was the daughter of Samuel A'Court and Sarah Ann Unknown.[1] She married Albert Ranby in 1891 [2]

Wedding at St Luke's.— The ceremony of matrimony was performed at St Luke's Church yesterday between Mr Albert Ranby, a farmer at Woodend, and Miss Lucy Britton, eldest daughter of Mr Samuel A'Court, of this City. The service was conducted by the Rev Archdeacon Lingard, and the bride was attended by her sister and Miss Ranby as bridesmaids. In the evening Mr A'Court entertained the members of both families and a host of friends in the Oddfellows' Hall, Montreal street North, where a most enjoyable evening was spent by all. At the supper the healths of the happy couple were heartily honoured. Dancing was kept up till the small hours of the morning [3]

They divorced in 1894

RANBY V RANBY. In this case Mr Stringer appeared for the petitioner, the wife, to ask for a decree nisi on the ground of adultery and cruelty. The petitioner was Lucy B. Ranby and the respondent Albert Ranby. The parties were married in January, 1891, at St. Luke's Church, Christchurch. There were two children. The respondent did not appear. Mr Stringer opened the case for the petitioner, and called evidence in proof of the statements in the petition. His Honour made a decree nisi with costs, the petitioner to have the custody of the children. Leave given to apply in three months [4]

Maintenance. — An order was made directing Albert Ranby to pay Lucy Britton Ranby, formerly his wife but now divorced. 15s per week for the maintenance of their two children, and to find surety in £50 for compliance with the order, or, in default, to be imprisoned for six months. Mr Stringer appeared for the plaintiff, Mr Kippenberger for the defendant [5]

She married 2nd Richard Hayward in 1905 [6] She passed away in 1940 age 76 [7]
