Biography

Kari was baptized on 26 Dec 1799, the daughter of Anders Svendsen and Ingeborg Pedersdatter[1] (see notes on this conclusion below). At the time of her marriage she was from the Åsmundrud farm. Kari married Helge Thorsen on 27 Sep 1828.[2] They had children:

  1. Inger Marie 1829-
  2. Anders 1830-
  3. Maren 1834-before 1840
  4. Thor 1836-1916
  5. Inger Mari 1838-
  6. Maren 1840-
  7. Andrine 1843-

Kari died on 9 Dec 1867 and was buried 25 Dec 1867.[3]

In the 1865 census Kari (age 58) was a hustru (wife) in Østfold.[4]

Research Notes

There were three girls named Kari born to fathers named Anders in Øymark between 1792 and 1809:

1. 6 Apr 1800, daughter of Anders Andersen & Mari Tostensdatter. This one is not her as this one is with her parents in 1801 at Skinnarbu (under Gunneng)[5] and she married Anders Tors in 1822[6] and shows the bride was from Skinerbu and they had children during the same time as Helge and Kari.
2. 26 Dec 1800, daughter of Anders Svendsen & Ingebor Pedersdatter. This one was with her parents at Kilebu under Krogstad in 1801.[7] This couple also had Iver 26 Dec 1802[8] and Marthe 21 Jul 1805.[9] This Kari's confirmation is found in 1814, Nr. 10, still at Kilebu.[10]
3. 14 Nov 1802, daughter of Anders Aslaksen & Marthe Brynildsdatter from Otteid.[11]

There are only 3 marriages of a Kari Andersdatter old enough to be married between 1820-1834:

  1. 25 May 1822, the one from Skinnarbu above, already eliminated
  2. 27 Sep 1828, ours here married to Helge Torsen
  3. 13 Oct 1832, married to Hans Jensen from Gjøsbu, 43 to Kari Andersd. from Otteid, 30 (born about 1802) [12]

As both the others are matched with same farm names at baptisms & marriages and ages at marriage correlate, I am fairly confident that Anders Svendsen and Ingebor Pedersdatter are the parents of this Kari. Her age given in marriage record of 28 is exactly correct as they married in Sep and she turned 29 in Dec.
