Biography
Henry was born about 1742. He passed away in 1814. [1]
Henry Abbey was christened Dec 3 1742 in Bilton Ainsty, Yorkshire, England. His father was John Abbey. [2]
At his death, he was listed as 'Of Long Marston Hall' in the obituary.
Research Notes
When Henry died the burial records of the parish list him as a householder - I am not sure what this means but perhaps he leased a house rather than owned it. He is also described as a brewer. Son John is also described as a brewer at his death in 1832.
In the 1807 Poll Book which I will source later - Henry and John are entitled to vote so must have owned property.
The other brewer in the area was Richard Abbey of Tockwith. There was a brewery in Tockwith - a large concern and I suspect this was connected to the Abbey family of Long Marston.
It is not certain where they lived. Marston Hall is a large building and may have been divided or they may have had the Hall farm. Certainly they were a family of some substance because when another family member died, Henry Abbey of Long Marston Hall - this is the exact phrase used in the Obituary.
