Fred was born in Hunslet, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, in 1851. His birth was registered in the fourth quarter. He was the son of John Abbishaw and Ann Parker.
Fred married Eliza Ann Sawyer (nee Raper) in 1889. Eliza was a widow with nine children. The marriage was registered in the second quarter in Hunslet. Fred and Eliza were enumerated in the 1891 census residing in Rothwell with six of Eliza's children, ages nineteen to seven, as well as two of their own daughters, Florence, one year, and Eliza Ann, one month old. Fred and Eliza would have one more child, John, in 1893.
Fred and Eliza would remain in Rothwell. they were enumerated at several different locations in Rothwell in the 1891, 1901, and 1911 census'. Fred was in the coal mining industry, serving in several capacities over the years. Fred passed away in 1918. His death was registered in the second quarter in Hunslet. He was sixty seven.
