LEWIS ABBOT, b. at Brookfield, 31 Jul 1782 son of Jesse Abbot and Sarah Wakefield;[1] d. at Brookfield, 8 Sep 1862;[2] m. at Sturbridge, 28 Nov 1805,[3] POLLY NICHOLS, b. at Sturbridge, 1 Apr 1785 daughter of Edmund and Elizabeth (Damon) Nichols;[4] Polly d. at Brookfield, 25 Jan 1871.[5]
Lewis and Polly resided in Brookfield.
Lewis Abbot served as Captain of a company raised at Brookfield with service at Boston in the regiment of Col. S. Town during the War of 1812.[6]
In his will written 20 June 1850 (probate 2 December 1862), Lewis Abbot bequeathed one dollar to each of his children: Mary Stowell wife of Ephraim C. Stowell, Lucy Jenks widow of Alfred Jenks, Cynthia Goss wife of Daniel Goss, James L. Abbott, Charles H. Abbott, and Jane L. Hamilton wife of Robert P. Hamilton. The residue of the estate was left to beloved wife Polly Abbott to be hers, forever. The heirs-at-law listed at probate were Mary A. Stowell of Brookfield; Lucy A. Jenks of Springfield; C. Hanson Abbott of Chicago; J. Lewis Abbott of Geneva, IL; Jane Hamilton of Saratoga, NY; and Cynthia Goss of Chicago.[7]
