Biography
This profile is part of the Abbott Name Study.
It has yet to be established whether or not Joseph's father was Thomas Kingsmill Abbott but DNA matching indicates that his father is either Thomas or a very close (ie 1st cousin or son) of Thomas' called Thomas. The Thomas shown as his father died in 1845. Joseph's year of birth is confusing. Based on the 1901 census it would be 1847/8, on the 1911 census 1840/41, from his death certificate 1837, and from his gravestone 1835.
- In the newspaper marriage announcement for his daughter Belinda in 1928 its says "youngest daughter of the Late Mr and Mrs Joseph Kingsmill Abbott of Mannin, Queen's County".
Joseph Abbott, a bachelor farmer of full age, married Mary Anne Franck, a spinster of full age, at Dunkerrin Church of Ireland, King's County on 10 Oct 1865 with the fathers named as Thomas Abbott and John Franck both farmers.[1]

Gravestone at Skirk Church, County Laois reads: "Erected in Memory of Joseph Abbott of Mannin Rushall Died 8th December 1915 Aged 80 Years. His son John Kingsmill Died 8th August 1924 Aged 45 Years".[5]
